Re: Lost Logic Vacuum Setup
    #54950 -

The Vacuum setup is working!!

No pins as yet! (5 days!!)

A tube runs from the terrarium into a cap which fits on the end of the vacuum cleaner, a second tube runs out the terrarium into a plastic container which has an air filter on the lid. When the vacuum is turned on the old air is sucked out the terrainum, very quick and affective. There is no need to open the terrarium, so the chances of contamination is reduced.

I relayed this idea to afoaf and he really digs it. But his wife doesn't mind him stealing the vac either.

Mine is too loud though (pick either, the vac or the S.O.).

to keep contamination out, use positive ventilation. To keep it in, use negative ventilation.

If any one is using a containment to keep some sort of dangerous cantamination in, though, I dont even wanna know about it :)

My set-up blows instead of sucks. I`ve a 12 volt vacuum cleaner stuffed full of polyfill. A 1/2 inch hose blows fresh and filtered air into my terrarium. CO2 is vented thru 1/4 inch holes above the perlite. Since the vacuum is a wet/dry, once a week I feed it some H2O2. Works like a charm.

"to keep contamination out, use positive ventilation. To keep it in, use negative ventilation." If the container is air tight and the only inlet is through a HEPA filter then I can't see the set-up keeping contamination in!!

The vacuum cleaner is only on for a minute or so, therefore the humidity quickly rises after the air is sucked out. I don't use the timer any more it seems to long (my timer has 15 min sections).
