idae for ventilation...what do ya think?

Not so long ago was there a printed article in hightimes, that I took a liking too. It explained the practise of ventilation without the use of fans, pumps, ect. The idea was to create an air tight(so to speak) enviorment. Something like a box for example. Your plant (or in our case shrooms) would grow in- side this box. Situated at the bottom would be a hole about x wide. Directly above this, (afew more feet, or inches in are case) would be another opening xx wide. The heat that is generated inside this enviroment would be circulated from the bottom opening to the top. Thus, by the hot air rising out from the top opening (which is wider then the bottom opening), would create a suction at the bottom. So now with all that being said, you could control how much ventilation is going on by 1. openings...top/bottom(top being slightly wider) 2. how much heat is coming from your heat source. Here's the ?....How would one calibrate just how much ventilation is needed for say...thai. cubes? Also what would happend to co2 levels? Almost forgot...since the hotter air will rise out, does this mean it would be ok to leave your exit opening open all the time, or can contamination still grab ya by the balls? THX

Not a bad idea. You would have 2 problems though: Mushrooms don?t produce that much heat as an HD grow lamp, and you would have to humidify the intake air, or you?ll dry out your mushies.

ok..i thought about this for alittle while. Since the bottom hole would be on the bottom..hehe, I could just soak the perlite alittle more. Perhaps some type of filter could cover the bottom opening. Are coffee filter's recomended?

Almost forgot..the heat source would be on the bottom, say a heating pad for reptiles.

>wouldent the heavier co2 sink to bottom Not as long you have some kind of currents in the terrarium. CO2 mixes quite well with air because of the gas diffusion, allthough the molecular weight is much higher.

Using a fish pump, where would the proper place be to for an intake if my out going air is vented to the top. I'll be connecting two tubes on a valve, that will run inside my mini environment (the two tubes that is). My mushy's will sit on a shelf about halfway from top/botoom(shelf is vented btw).

Currents are forming through the rising of the warm air.
