That sounds like just the behavior you would expect in a channel called #lol. It's not like you can say he's off topic.

He's hijacked the channel by using an administrator command to register it and forcing users out of it. I didn't say he was off topic.

He's probably laughing his ass off about it now, hence the title LOL. Makes perfect sense to me. I actually had a good laugh reading your post, so that's a double LOL.

Apparently it's his channel now, not yours any more. So if you were smart you would just make another channel called LOL2 and ban him from it. Then it'll be your channel and you can lay down the rules.

It's really quite simple actually. . in fact, you might even call it a cult. . it's something I observed while playing too many MMORPGs when I was in high school.

Gretchen is a female. She is on IRC/a web community. Not many females tend to use IRC in comparison to the amount of males. Now, everyone knows what happens when you add girl + IRC. it = a bunch of horny IRC-using men sitting at their computers who want to give the woman a lot of extra attention.

Now, I'm not saying that gretchen's friends are like that at all, just that it's very possible that that's the case - at least with a majority of people who randomly frequent IRC.

In chronological order, this is what the irc logs have to show.

There's two scenarios I can see here:

1) Impala joined, then registered #lol, then gretchen registered her nickname and was added to the access list.

2) Gretchen joined (created) #lol on November 28th. She then told other users about the channel, Impala being one of them or having heard about it joined as well.

Impala was then granted operator status by gretchen (or somebody in the channel she /mode +o'ed) and registered the channel with ChanServ. This gives Impala founder status and grants him the ability to modify channel settings (user levels included)

Gretchen registers her nickname a short time later, and Impala gives her auto-operator status.

As you can see, in either of those two scenarios, Impala registered the channel. It's his. Gretchen, whether she was the first in the room or not, isn't the owner of the channel, and thus the channel can't be stolen from her.

I know this isn't what you want to hear (judging by the tone of your post) so I'll remind you that you can always start other channels, register them, and administer them as you see fit.

Given all circumstances, Impala's owned the channel for as long as I can remember, and since at least November apparently. If he took control of the channel shortly after Gretchen created it, she could have said something or created a new channel then (since #lol wouldn't have been established yet), but must not have had a problem with it at that point. I hate to say it's too late now, but it kind of is. It's been his channel for this long, I can't really take it away from him because people now have a problem with it.... It's his channel, as far as I remember and am able to verify, it's always been his channel.

Cool, I was sick of hearing about it in all the other channels. I was mis-lead about the reg dates to think this happened a day or 3 ago. Again I don't care but now when people start talking about it I can just link them here. :yesnod:
