Boletes ID
    #5887202 -

Habitat: On the edge of my neighbors lawn, just under the hanging branches of an Eastern Hemlock.
Characteristics of the gills: Typical of a boletes, light rust in coloration, similar to cap. Bruised almost black.

Characteristics of the stem: Stiff, appeared slightly hollow or stringy. Red where attaches to cap.
Characteristics of the cap: Golden brown, almost looked toasted.
Spore print color (very important!): light brownish olive
Color that the mushroom bruises: No bruising.
Scent of the mushroom: Mild odor, not sure how to describe.

Do you have the stem? It is a very important ID feature in boletes, especially the large, brown capped/pale pored ones, as there are so many of that description.
Based on your description, I believe it is a species of Gyroporus, due to the pore color (light brownish yellow from pics), spore print color (pale), and stem characteristics [slightly hollow (a.k.a. chambered)]. However, I am not 100% sure, as many species of boletes in other genre also fit your description, but Gyroporus sp. fit with all of the given characteristics.
We need more info for a better I.D.

(NOTE: The most important feature I am looking for is a fragile, chambered stem. If the stem has holes in it from bugs, but is not fragile, then it is probably not a Gyroporus sp.)

L. Milkman, Jim was talking to the originator of the post, see who he replied to.

Timberdoodler gave the description:

"Characteristics of the gills: Typical of a boletes, light rust in coloration, similar to cap. Bruised almost black."

He did not mention pores, but i think that goes without saying, as the defining feature of "bolete" is porous or tube-like material under the cap.

Oh... of course.
I don't even notice the "characteristics of gills" line anymore.
