ID Help. Boletus?
    #2332147 -

Wondering if some of keen eyed mycologists might be able to help with these two, My guess is they are both Boletus but don't know if they're true Boletus or not? I can't seem to track them with any Australian Field Guides.

Stem - Swolen and Brown. 15cm.H, 13cm.W
Cap - Brown Wavy, Not slimy 24cm.W
Gills - None, Pores only, Grey Brown to Honeycomb.

Growing on exposed hillside - Grass only, No cover.

----------------

Stem - Reddish/Pink turning yellow 4cm.W, 12.cmH
Cap - Pinkish, with yellow ring - slightly upturned cap, Not slimy
Gills - None, Pores only Yellow in colour.

Gowing on small hill, well shaded, BrakenFern and Eucalypt cover.

any sugstions would be good,
cheers.

The first one looks like a "true" Boletus, or one of the Boletus genus, bruising pores, yellowish pores, shape, color, there is one species it looks like, but I don't remember the name.

The second is a Boletus sp., looks like Boletus rubellus (Xerocomus rubellus)

We really need to get a spore print color and see the surface of the stem in detail to be certain of the genera.

Also, a high percentage of boletes have characteristic bruising. Cut them in half vertically and scrape the inside with your knife edge hard enough to bruise them. Watch for color changes. Some changes can occur quickly (note in particular any that occur within 30 seconds) and others can take up to an hour. Be sure to note both.

Happy mushrooming!

Yes, Toxic is right about the surface of the stem for the first one. Is that not blue bruising on the pores?

Unfortunatly i took these photos over a month ago and i did not collect specimens.

So spore print colour is out of the question aswell as stipe surface.

Thanks for your comments both Magma and Toxic...however if i see some more of these soon i will gladly take more photos and more info.

Ohh and re: brusing pores, yes the first specimen had quite bruised pores staarting yellow/brown later turning a bluish shade.

thanks again.
