What is this?
    #585455 - 03/21/02 03:59 PM (22 years, 1 month ago)

AFOAF has 11 jars colonizing on brf and verm and wonders if mycelia is growing or if its cobweb mold. He is very unsure and would like to know how to tell the difference. Some of the stuff growing is really white for some jars and others its not so white . . .how can he tell what cobwelb mold is?

Cotton molds are thin, whispy and most importantly gray. Some mycelium may look gray at first but it should defently turn white in a few days. You'll have to wait and see how it spreads.

Cobweb usualy forms little black spore looking things after a while. If you see these its a sure thing. Be careful w/ contaminated jars and empty them FAR away from your growing area.

starts out kinda whispy gray, then turns really clumpy white like wet cotton, then starts becoming green on top of the white. Also smells kinda funny.
I actually let a contaminated casing sit for a couple of months without fanning and that's the result I got.

k.

here are some pics

the first is a pic of my rubbermaid container that i use for an incubator and the second is all the jars in the incubator . .they are turned upside down and have lids alittle loose for the co2 to escape the white stuff u see are my filters . . there is a heating pad at the bottom of the container and over the heating pad is a towel to make sure the jars dont get too hot.

picture 3 is a picture of what i think is my good mycelia but im not sure and pic 4 is what im not sure about it looks kinda like snot and its not bright white and picture number is just a picture of a jar.

I innoculated off a print under sterile conditions - gasmask and the whole nine . .i used the over tek and everything was sprayed down with alcohol. Im sorry for the crappy pics as they are from my web cam!

From the pictures it looks good to me. Moisture will distract from the bright white color. Does it have what looks to be little strands reaching out???? If it does you have nothing to worry about.
