Fan Drying Mushrooms

Okay, I see that most people use a large fan to blow air either down or up onto the mushrooms. However, I tried this once only to slowly burn out to motor. Now, I have my hands on a small 12V computer fan and the proper AC adapter to wire it up from my wall (eliminating the need for batteries). I can build a box from anything. Tissue box, shoe box, etc. Now, it doesnt move much air but it pushes it around. Is this enough? Also, Would it be best to blow it from the side or from above? Thank you!

Fan only drying isn't adequate. If you blow air with 30% relative humidity across your shrooms, they'll only dry partially. Add heat, and you've got cracker dry shrooms. 100 degees Fahrenheit should do it.

I'm wondering if anyone has tried drying with a vaccume pump? Pulling a vaccume drops the boiling point to below room temperature and should dry shrooms in a matter if minutes. But what will it do to the shrooms? Since there's no potency loss due to oxidation it could produce more potent shrooms. Also would they be dry before the have had time to wilt, and be prettier? Or rupture the veins much like freezeng? A real vaccume pump(for refrigeration service) costs around $175 bucks (or at least mine did) but a cheap alternative can be built from a compressor out of and old refrigerator( If you get the right one). Many shade tree mechanics have used these to evacuate a/c systems on cars for years. One drop of water can render a cooling system useless and vaccuming is the only way to boil an unlocatable drop of water from underneath oil. So has anyone tried it? If someone doesn't advise me against it, that may be one of my next tests. After I build a sealable / accessable drying chamber. Anyone?.....Anyone?....Bueler?

It would be better to dry them as far as possible with the fan and then finish off with a dessicant. Adding heat will reduce the strength of the shrooms. You do want them cracker dry whatever method you use.

I have noted with the Jebus2000 fan box I built that they do get cracker dry. In fact they snap like a twig.. of course if there may be a way to get them even dryer because thats all i ve ever known but they do seem dry to me with just a fan

Mine always go cracker dry with just a fan, but I live where the RH seldom gets above 25%. I still store them using dessicants just in case.
Also, a thought on the post about the fan motor dying. Make sure that you have a way for the air flow to come in the backside of the fan. I set the fan up horizontal with the air blowing up, a few inches off the table with some old phone books as spacers and place the fruit to dry on top.

That is not true whatsoever.
just because the RH in the room is say 30%, that doesnt mean that your goods will be 30% water.
I have a chart somewhere, it varies with species, and with stalk thickness, but a room at 30% RH, the guys would only contain maximum 5% water (by weight) i would say.
if that.
