Whats the fastest way to dry mushrooms and also where can I put them to dry.

Maby not the fastest, but by far the best way is to fan dry them for 24 hours and then throw them into a dessicant chamber for another 24 to 48 hours. Dessicant can be found at your local hardware store and is pretty cheap. This will get them cracker dry in two to three days and can be stored for a long amount of time with no noticable potency loss.

Place them on a screen in front of a fan. It drys them fast but if you want cracker dry for long storage place them in a drying chamber with dessicant after fan drying. I just use a tupperware with a screen cut to keep the shrooms of the bottom and place damp-rid. or damp-b-gone in the bottom

From what I understand, the potentcy is the same... You can just preserve them longer. Fresh mushrooms don't stay good for months at a time like dryed mushrooms.

since all the water is gone, you eat much less shrooms to get the same effects as eating many fresh ones

And because you're eating less bulk (especially if you are grinding them to a powder & putting them in empty vitamin caps) there's much less chance of nausea/ upset or bloating too, as they don't hit your stomach so hard ...;)

I built and a drying box using a fan, two frames covered in window screen that are hinged together like a book. The front face of the fan is removed and is placed face down on top of the screen. The air blows down and while passing by the fresh mushrooms carries it's moisture with it. I can dry a 1/4 Lb. in 24-36 hours. I have never used a dessicant, simply b/c a could never find any at hardware stores, but just by using the drying box my shrooms are bone dry.




I will be posting construction details for the "Jebus dehydrator Tek v1.0" in a few days for those that may be interested in building there own.

I know this thread is old but I'm going to post here anyway. The desiccant can be found at Home Depot. I've seen it there called Damp Rid. Look in the aisle with the cleaning supplies... I think that's the aisle I saw it in. But it's definitely at Home Depot.
