Viable spores from dried mushrooms
    #530524 - 01/24/02 11:13 PM (16 years, 9 months ago)

Is it possible (or likely) to be able to extract viable spores from dried mushrooms to use for innoculation of PF style jars? How would one do so?

I know there is at least one successful attempt of this listed over at erowid, but then again they also said this person seemed to emit a field of non-contamination around them...

Thank you for your replies. I'd like to know if this is possible before I go out and spend money on jars/cooker/substrate/etc...

If you take a gill fragment from a mushroom that has its veil torn and has produced spores and place it on antibacterial agar, you can sucessfully get dried material to germinate. This has been done by Workman with Ps. mexicana.

It is possible to do it withought antibacterial agar as well..just more likely to get contams...but the beauty with agar is that you can use the non contaminated part of the mycelium to spawn more agar. It is harder to find than just plain agar is all...good luck.
