How long do dried mushrooms usually stay... good (?) for? Can they be dried then frozen? Or put into jars or something? Thanks for the help

after dried you can put them in a jar or a bag with some dessicant and they will keep for a long time as long as you keep them cool dry and in the dark they should last dam near forever

I would reccomend sticking them in an air tight glass jar. Plastic seems air tight, but it really isn't. This will keep them for long periods of time. Freezing will help extend this. Remember to keep out of sunlight aswell, or atleast direct sunlight.

The pressure cooker is for sterilizing substrate, instruments, jars and for cooking. Nothing to do with storing dried mushrooms.
Get a little pack of dessicant like what you would fine in a new shoe box and tape it to the underside of a canning lid. Store your shrooms in the canning jar.
You could win a pack of dessicant gel in 'THE little CONTEST' in the Vendors forum!

i read in "the mushroom cultivator" that freezing your mushrooms will ruin them. it said that if you do it they will get soggy when they thaw and be really nasty. were they talking about only wet shrooms? are you sayinh its ok to put dried shrooms in the freezer?

somebody on this forum [forget who] posted something not long ago about freezing dried mushrooms. He/she dried them as usual and then put them in those vacuum seal bags and stored them in the freezer for a year [I think]. After a year in the freezer they were tried and reported to be just a potent and fresh as the day they were frozen.

Ah yes, my friend makes sure they are completely dry and seals them in his Foodsaver. They stay potent a very long time.
