 Simple Casing Question About Jiffy Mix...

Well i read this Tek in THE SEA OF SHROOMS that says
"Take a suitable amount of moist Jiffy Mix (or 50/50 casing mix) and create a top layer. "
The part im wondering about is when they say Moist Jiffy Mix do they mean you have to soak it in some water first and get it to the point where its barely dripping with water when you squeeze it or do they mena just get some Jiffy Mix Outta the bag and use it that way.

Well cmon guys its a simple question relaly. Should i wet the jiffy Mix (50/50 of vermiculite and peat moss with lime) or not whenver i use it to case with???

Yes... Read this for more details on jiffy-50/50 casing:

Combine the knowledge gained from the 2 teks (and others maybe?) and create your own.. Its very easy to have an overly moist casing so use your best judgement based upon what you read in each of the different casing teks... Once you have some experience, you'll have it all figured out for yourself. Trial and error is the only way to learn 100% unless you've got a pro showing you the ropes in person...

I prefer making my own 50-50 mix over jiffy. Plus now my wal mart only carries that shite with fertilizer built in. It does make it a lot easier though. Thats the messiest part for me is mixing my verm:peat:water together.
I always sterilize my casing mix also, never hurts to be precautios.

i really wet mine in a bowl-then i grab a hand full,squeeze it till all the water is gone and its barely dripping ,then add it to layer-

this is what i use:
i mix jiffymix with vermiculite at a 50/50 ratio...(i do this because jiffy alone cannot withstand the weight of the fruitbody, well at least in my experience)
stuff it in a pillowcase, tie it off.
take a bigass pot, fill it with water, take your pillowcase and put it in the pot.
bring it to a boil. keep temps at 140*F for 2 hours.
after the time is up, turn off the stove.
let it cool long enough for you to drain the water.
hang the pillowcase until its cool enough to handle.
squeeze the pillowcase until only a few drops come out.
your shit is ready to use as a casing layer.
before you apply it, make sure you squeeze the handful until only a few drops come out.
have fun.
