This really shouldn't be in advanced, but I will answer anyway. Get a small fan and blow air across the fruitbodies for 24-48 hours. They will be nearly cracker dry. Finish off the drying with dessicant until the stems snap when broken. Don't use heat on the fruitbodies or they will lose potency. Don't store the fruitbodies wet for more than a day or two or they will rot.

ok. my friend who is growing mushrooms has been running out of dessicant lately due to all the moisture saturating the damprid stuff. so she innovated her own method. she slices most of the larger fruit stems with a sharp knife. then she takes a needle and thread and sews all the mushrooms together near the base of each stem. she ties the ends of the thread together like a neckless. finally, she tapes the mushroom necklass so the stems all dangle behind her computer right in front of the exhaust of the power supply cooling fan. since she has an apple G3, the air coming out of there is barely warm to the hands. this may or may not be the case with an intel or amd-based computer (those CPUs tend to run much hotter than the G3 processor).
here's another pic that shows the taping of the threads to the handle on the back of the powermac G3.
in twelve hours she has extremely dry mushrooms which she then stores in the freezer.

Give my condolences to your friend, and the purchase of her G3 processor... besides the point.. is it necessary to store them in the freezer? or would a tightly sealed bag do just as well (maybe even vaccume seal?)
