How would the Pub be moderated so that free-speech was respected but at the same time garbage was not posted?

It would be too tricky of a balance.

m00nshine is currently vacationing in Maui. Rumor has it he got rolled by drunken natives and is currently prostituting himself in order to pay for airfare back to the mainland but he's having trouble juggling a hairon addiction. He won't be back for a long while.

From a personal stand point, all while new to actually register, I've been coming and reading the site for a while...

When I registered and posted a meet and greet, I was bombarded with mostly sexual commentary as opposed to the normal "what's up?"--While I have a cool head about things and I've built a tolerance someone else may not have it.

In turn losing A) traffic for the site and B) the respect any new person would have for the members of this site. The shroomery is what it is because it is a support network, experts and serious experimenters baring information and knowledge, coming together to vie for more information and knowledge to work toward something better. You lose the respect of your peers, and eventually the site becomes nothing more than a gathering place for the uninformed, unintelligent, and people who have lost the "art". I see their point entirely, dramatics aside.

There are places to "let loose" and places to flex your ability to carry on with a logical, friendly, and positive side. Works that way in the real world too mind you. Do you think you can get a job asking the boss lady if she'd show you her tits? Not likely... and further more, you'd probably also have a lawsuit on your hands... (mind you I'm using my experience as it's what I've gotten first hand.)

I think message boards need moderation. Now and then you have a community that lucks out and is able to self-moderate pretty well and keep things going. However, I do think that there are times where its important for moderators to step in for the sake of keeping the quality of a forum high.

It was paradise, and when I got fucking bored of paradise, as I often do, then I could wander down to OTD and have some real fun there, and back then, OTD wasn't lame, because it only has 5 people in it, like it is now...

Both forums are considerably less than they used to be, or could be, or should be, and I believe Zippoz's "membrane concept" hit the nail squarely on the head...

Could you give an example of how you want the Pub to be and how you want OTD to be? Then tell us what rules should apply to both forums.

You have to admit that there is no way you can make the Pub a hippy utopia again...unless you ruthlessly suppress free speech.

I think OTD could only improve if more people went back. I like OTD, and frankly, both forums are a fucking mess right now. They don't know what they're supposed to be. There is no clear sense of identity for either of them right now...

Ok, let me rephrase my use of the word "oversexed". I meant to imply that they weren't getting any in real life and because of that they are over-sexed, i.e. thinking about sex too much.
