When do I take the cakes out??!!
    #568862 - 03/03/02 05:19 PM (21 years, 11 months ago)

My jars are almost fully colonized. I used the MMGG and these are B+ spores. I need to know how long do i keep them in their jars after they become fully colonized? What does pinning look like?

I would birth them now. Case them with some damp verm.
I don't consider the B+ to be a great strain for invitro pinning.

Regardless of what others say, do not birth the cakes until they are 100% colonized or you will end up with contamination (most likely). If I were you, I would wait three to four days after they are fully colonized to ensure the centers of the cakes are done as well, and then birth them.

When you first birth them, the mycelium will be fairly flat and ropey looking. After they have had a while in the terrarium, the mycelium will start to develope fluffy areas. These fluffy areas eventually firm up into tiny tight little balls that eventually turn into fruitbodies.

Cake won't stop colonizing just cuz it's been birthed. If indeed the center is not fully done, it will continue to colonize at the same time the casing is colonizing.

Many people wait forever for a last bit of the cake to colonize not realizing that water has collected in that spot and rendered it uncolonizable.

Contamination is not caused by birthing to early, its caused by unclean conditions.
