CAKES BIRTHED how do they look PICS
    #581210 - 03/17/02 09:01 AM (22 years, 11 months ago)

This is my first try and i just birthed these cakes last night. They have been fully colonised for over a week. I have a couple questions for all of you, on the picture of the single cake, are those little yellowish things pins? How long should it take from here to see actual growth progress? Also, does my terrarium look siutable for supporting 4 b+ cakes?

Here is outside the terrarium

This is the picture of the 4 cakes i just birthed last night

This is just a pic of a single fully colonised cake

hard to tell if thoseare young pins or not; but thats a good setup.
if you kep temps around 72-76 and fan 1 to 2x a day youll see wins within a few days; MAYBE up to 1 week but if theyve been 100% colonized in the jar for 1 week you should see something within 2 or 3 days; but there are many variables.

For pin formation fan at least 3 times a day.

It's hard to see from the second picture, but make sure you have enough water in the perlite. For cakes you need more humidity than casings. The perlite needs to be about half filled with water, you dont want a big puddle, but too dry is no good either. A splash of peroxide can help keep the stuff clean.
