Help With Cake Birthing (timing)
    #443485 - 10/31/01 06:25 PM (21 years, 10 months ago)

Ok I just birthed 4 cakes this morning and they only had small pins on them and I was thinking that they couldnt grow the primordia because the substrate was packed to tightly in the jars (some of the mycelium was turning blue that was pushing up against the side of the jars) Do you think it was wise to just take them out or should I just have left them. I was wondering this because I have 5 more jars that are getting there, but im not sure if i should birth them yet.

Sounds like you were shootin for invitro pinning....i'm I right?
You can take them out when their 100% colo. until then, it's not a real good idea. So as long as they were 100% then your fine. If your just going to leave them like that(as cakes) then start to fruit them.

Yeah, I was waiting for the Primordia to start forming before I took them out of the jars and like I said I figured I should take them out since the mycelium was turning blue from pushing against the side of the jars. They were 100% colonized with a lot of pins and there were a couple white blobs that were turning yellow also.
