Cakes After Dunking...

My friend dunked a cake of hers before it's first flush. She did this because the cake was turning blue and looked old from the start, due to not enough water being put into the substrate at the beginning...

Anyways, she dunked the cakes for only 8 hours, in tap water. The water was not cold, but not warm, it was "in the middle".

She then took the cake out and put it back into the terrarium. She noticed that the "fluffy" mycelium that used to be on the top and sides of the cake was now matted down.

3 days later, and the cake's mycelium is still "matted down". She just wants to know if this is normal, and will the cake become fluffy soon? Thanks everyone.

Yeah that's what I told her, but she was just a little worried.

Anyways, it is on the 4th day now, and the mycelium looks a bit better. Only time will tell.

Be sure to look for some pics of these Gulf Coast's iin the pic forum... The invitro jars have already begun pinning, so these pics will most likely be first.

yeppers, just wait a little longer and you should be fine... dunking is ok, but when a FOAF used to do cakes, he used the straw method.... he liked it better in the fact that it gave a more steady continuous water content, but YMMV.
