You want the terrarium bottom covered by a layer of perlite. It doesn?t matter if 1/2 or 5 inches thick, but you should do the obvious.

Well, I don?t think it will hurt anything, Many people advocate standing water. I tend more towards the thin layer of moist vermiculite without standing water.

thin layer of vermiculite>?did u mean perlite?..lol...anyway, im still not sure quite how perlite works-does it give off humidity in the air? or should i just keep hand misting as well-and my dam accurite digital hygro/thermo went to hi% instead of a readout for humdity-
so ill have to judge it by the condensation

oops, perlite.
Perlite has a large surface and thus evaporates more water than if you would simply pour some water into your terrarium.

I allow the perlite to kinda float in the water. Some is below the water level and some above. If I understand this right the perlite kind acts like a wick for the water, then the air in your terraium being wamer from heater and bubbler the water evaporates from the top layer of perlite and adds humidty. If thats correct then the water on the bottom is like a resivor - dosn't matter how deep.
My Hygro/Thermo sounds like yours. When mine says high I know its over 95%. At least it keeps you in the ballpark. To check it just place in normal room air and watch it as it goes down when it reaches numbers you know the limit.
Hope this helps, I'm still learning the basics.
Peace,
Bob

Quantity dosent matter...what does matter is that you have the h2o2 in it or else you WILL get unwanted visitors...i learned that the hard way :-(
