Night Tips

Hey guys, i am going to be doing a night hunt on a field next to a fair populated road when the weather gets good, and was wondering (since i have to do it at night) if i could get any good hunting tips on hitting the pastures at night.
i have decided against bringing a flash light to find the shrooms not to draw attention, so can anyone reccomend good methods of spotting the mushrooms at night? last time i went it was the flashlight that did most the work.
any other tips on night time shroom hunting would be much appreciated.

also the humididty has been wobbling betwween 60-75% in my area but we havent gotten much rain, are these good conditions or might i need to wait a little while? (im in florida and know NOTHING about weather)

i think you should bring the flashlight... unless theres a full moon out... nothing worse than picking up something you think is a mushroom.

Try going at like 5 in the morning. Might be some light in the sky, and people messin around early in the AM seem less suspicious to people then when it's the middle of the night.

I would use something similar to a "MiniMag" flashlight, but fitted with a cone type hood so it couldn't be been from the sides. Make the hood out of opaque plastic or paper, test it out to see if you can see it from the sides BEFORE you go out. Dark clothes, car well out of view or better yet, walk from the nearest parking lot.

Plan it around a full moon or a perfectly clear sky. Chill a while in the dark just sitting around to let your eyes adjust. After that they pop out like wha what!
Its an adrenilin rush hearing dogs barking at you and seeing cars passing by.
Not to mention barbed wire fences have fuxed me up a few times. Oh those youthful nights! I havn't gone out hunting like that for 8 years now.
Early morning is the least suspicious though. Its an adrenilin rush hearing dogs barking at you and seeing cars passing by.

Have a driver drop you off and pick you up! Nothing is wurse then seeing fields and having no good spots to park!

its very hard to find cubes at night without a ligt regardless of how clear it is, the only way i have ever found cubes that way is i happened to walk right over a patch of monster cubes. your best bet is to hunt with the rising sun so the fog will protect you from anybody driving by

We dont seem to get very thick fog down here in Florida.

depends on where in FL you are. Here in the SW part, fog is usually an everyday event, mostly just before the sun pops up. During the summer, it's darn near impossible not to run into fog here in the early morning. It's a subtropical climate down here.

nice to see you back in the hunting forum cubensiscutter
I have used my cell phone as a light while hunting. Easy to quickly conceal if necessary and not extremely noticeable? people just think it is ball lightening or saint elmo?s fire. And it is nice to have a cell phone while out at night in the event you need to call the police to report any illegal nocturnal activity you may observe. georgem

DO NOT use a flashlight, it would give you away. plus, if the moon is out, you should have no trouble locating mushrooms. they are very easy to spot in the moonlight.

What about using a red lensed flashlight. It won't carry as far and should provide enough light to see what you need to.

if you live in FL and the conditions are right for picking mushrooms, then at 5 in the morning there is no reason why there wouldnt be a thick blanket of fog hanging low over the feild

Night hunting in pastures is fine. I have plenty of night-time hunting experience. It never seems to amaze me how easily the Shrooms stand out at the dark of night. They glow like there are batteries in them!
And from my experience, the mushrooms are no harder to see under a new Moon or a full Moon. Your eyes adjust to the darkness and the mushrooms are clearly seen in the dark by the naked eye.
I strongly advise against using a flashlight for Shroom hunting. You really dont need it because your eyes will naturally dialate with the darkness
Plus if you are trespassing to get the Shrooms a flashlight will give you away, and you would be more likely to find yourself in some trouble that way.
One thing i dont like about night hunting is that you cant see snakes or fire-ants.. so you should really be prepared if you come across those at night.

Night hunting is risky. Like GG said, there are animals that can harm you that you might not see.
Also, if you park your car on a busy road at night time, there is a high likely-hood that a cop will stop and see why the car has been abandoned. If he happens to look in the field and see you, you're screwed. If you park on a country road and the farmer happens to drive by and see your car there, he's going to know something is up.
Keep that in mind.
