How can a pure verm casing get contaminated?? I thought there was no nutrients in the verm? Just wondering..... Thanks

How about the mushroom mycelium as a source of nutrients for molds?

You'll never have 100% pure verm.
Most probably algae grow on the pure verm (high humidity). Algae don't need a carbon source (what you called nutrients) because they make photosynthesis. Then probably a fungus grows parasiticaly on the algae (who produce sugars).
This is just a theory :wink:

I mean, fungi can even grow in destilled water, and that's what I call nutrient free :wink:

verm contains small ammounts of calcium, iron and such.
