A few quick questions. I wasn't sure if these were close enough to azurescans to use a similar tek...
I always see people using Alder chips for wood mushrooms, I'm guessing this is the best kind?
Do I soak and sterilize the chips then spawn with the colonized grain?
thanks in advance..

i dont know of the specific species you are talking about, but with azurescans, ive heard of people innoculating cardboard with grain, then innoculating alder chips with the cardboard... no idea why, just trying to help =)

He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest--a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."

I can't manage to find my field guide to check which sustrate they grow from but a good substrate is achieved by imitating nature.
Alder is used for Azurescens because it's part of Azures natural substrate, as some other river shore trees are.
I don't think you'll have good results with the Alder and the gyms.

SWRIM (someone who really isn't me) advises that it will colonize most any hardwood substrate. i can't give any advice on optimal substrate for fruiting but i imagine (given proper temp, humidity, etc) it would fruit sporaticaly on the above mentioned materials. it might also help to try casing, but again, i can't say for sure.

oh yeah, and for a spawn material use (soaked and sterilized) a 5/1 mix of either sawdust or fine smoking chips and bran or other grain meal. the more grain material you use the faster the spawn will colonize but the greater the dchance of contamination will be. whole grain spawns do attract pests but the degree to wich they do will varry signifigantly from location to location.
