A few quick Panaeolus Tropicalis Q's

So I aquired a Panaelous Tropicalis print, and I am extremely excited about starting some.
A few quick questions...
1) How long do the spores take to germinate on grain. (going to do a multispore via syringe directly onto birdseed).
2) What is the optimum temperature for incubation?
3) Is it ok to shake the jars after the mycelium has established itself in some areas?
Now tell me if Im on the right track with this: I can spawn my birdseed into say a 50/50 mix of pasturized manure and straw. Should I spawn run this until completely colonized, THEN add a casing, or add a casing at the beginning.
Ive heard too that you dont even incubate the bulk substrate...is this true or a myth?
Thanks a lot guys.

Isolations from multispore germinations on agar do better in my opinion.
Shaking spawn during colonization of multispore innoculations has variable succes.
Temps for incubation are in the low 80's F.
Always let your substrate colonize completely before casing. It is better IMO.
colonize substrate, case very thin, let it recover for 24-36 hours, and initiate in fruiting chamber. Pans are fast USUALLY. From multispore, they can be delayed alot.

PS there are NO Pan. tropicalis in circulation as of yet in the OMC. They are just a unique Pan. cyan strain from south east Florida.

Wow, no real Pan. Trop print? How could you be so sure...? I guess I wouldn't be too suprised if that was true, but how could vendors be selling them labled as a Panaeolus Tropicalis print?
So basically, the cultivation parameters for this species is somewhat similar to cubensis in ways. However, mycelium is less strong and casing should be added very lightly. Ive heard air exchanges are crucial for sucess as well.
Well If I had enough money to buy a flowhood or found out how to construct one or have a glovebox, I would be doing agar, no dout about it. Ive tried to ask fellow shroomerites on the construction for a flowhood but with minimal feedback, which has really bummed me out.
I guess I could construct a really low-budge glovebox, but I donno if it would be worth going through the hassels of getting mostly contaminated plates.
Thanks for the reply's Teonan.

IME, unless your substrate is wetter than normal, shaking results in the mycelium stalling.

Yeah I dont think Im going to shake the substrate with this species. I like the idea that I read in the grow/find section, that says to use 1/2 pint jars of birdseed with a vermeculite ramsey seal. Kinda like PF in a way I suppose.
Im going to try that out with a few and the normal polyfill way in quart jars.

angryshroom... why not use the oven tek.. works great, no need for a flow hood or glovebox.

Well they aren't in circulation yet!!! I have learned quickly to call into question any and all information relating to taxonomy of the potent Pan. complex. Lots of conflicting information and POOR identification skills run rampant in the OMC.
I hope they are Pan. trops, but I am not gonna hold my breath. MJ actually refered MR.G to HAWK's Pan. trop for identification comparison. Not realizing that HAWK got his Pan. trop from Mr. G. This is the Pan. trop that is in circulation in the OMC right now, and it is 4-spored as opposed to 2- spored, which makes it impossible for it to be a Pan. tropicalis.
I hope it is a Pan. tropicalis you got there from MJ. I'm just a tad bit skeptical.

You don't need a flowhood. The oven tek works fine if you don't mind a loss every now and then (i.e. over 90% success rate.)

oven tek shmoven tek if you're using peroxidated agar, and are smooth and quick with your transfers no sort of flowhood/"tek" is necessary, though it can't hurt..

Check out mycotopia's do it yourself projects section...they have a design for building your own flow hood. This is something i want to build too http://www.mycotopia.net/

Great Anno, thanks for the link.
So if I was to buy Agar from spore works, which one would I need to buy?
The Malt Extract Agar - light or wheat? And would I have to also buy just the agar agar, or would just hte Malt Extract agar be what im looking for?
