jars cracking in pressure cooker

Just sterilized six half-pint jars in my new little pressure cooker (3 on the bottom on top of a folded wash cloth, three stacked on top of those), and when I opened it up two of the jars were cracked in half -- one on the top and one on the bottom. This is only my second time using the p.c. but I can't see what I might have done wrong... anyone know what would cause the jars to crack? The only thing I can think of is that I didn't give them enough time to cool off before I opened the p.c. -- but I didn't hear any popping noises when I opened it, so I don't know...?

were the jars able to *rattle* in the pressure cooker? if so the steam probably rattled them around till they cracked

i dont have any expreience with this but from what i see alot of people say is either.....

your holes on the jars are covered or for some other reason the air in the jars cant escape

the heat is being transferred too directly to the jar (prob not the case with your wash cloth being used)

a cooling problem like you suggested
