similarly, I was wonderin if it would be OK to lay jars on their side. I have a PC that fits 1/2 pinters, but not the full pinters. COuld I put em in sideways?

A friend does his quarts on there side without any problems. He keeps them above the water line.

Hi, I was re-reading Oss and Oeric's Psilocybn Magic Mushrooms Growers guide the other day. In it they have a picture of jars being stacked into and All American 914.5 P.C. They also have some fantastic pictures of the end result. So it's okay to stack jars if you want. Oss and Oeric recommend letting a jet of steam come out of the top of the P.C before closing the valve. Quote: "allowing a visible head of steam to build up in the pressure cooker before closing the stopcock is important, for if it is closed prematurely, the pressure will rise but the water will be unable to vaporize, and dry heat requires much longer to accomplish sterilization.

Stacking is one hundred percent safe I have two cookers one mirro 8 qt. that holds 10 jars and a mirro 22 qt. that holds 24 jars. in both cookers jars must be stacked.

yeah stackin gis cool but theres a trick. criss cross the jars so that there not directly onn top of each other. The top jars should be on top of the edges of the two bottom jars. I remeber reading something about better steam exchange or some bullshit like that. The p cooker in the ott book is a 941, a 41 quart cooker, holds like 25 quart jars. Mine only holds 14 :frown:.
