leaving town with fruiting cakes!! help!
    #543530 -

Friends, I have witnessed my houseplant's 4 beautifully fruiting cakes come to life in his terrarium within the past week...the growths are 1-2 inches each, and about 10-20 per cake. My problem arises as I must leave town friday morning, when the growths will be between 1-3 inches. I won't be home to aide my houseplant until sunday night(8pm-night).
SHOULD I -harvest now, or
SHOULD I -let them hang tight for 3 days without airation and harvest upon returning?

I fear for the aborts/rotting growths that may hang out for 3 days with the good ones...is this anything to fear? please to help..

You could seal them and put them in the fridge, this will slow growth so they will be just right by sunday.

my only problem is that I live somewhere with a community fridge...it would be impossible to keep them concealed in there. I think that maybe if I just leave the terrarium lid ajar, it would get enough fresh air...humidty would drop a little(or a lot), but it would be alright for 3 days. thank you for your reply Anno. wish my houseplant's crop luck...

yes, at least they won?t begin to rot if you give them more air.

my friend also had a question along these same lines.. he will be leaving town for a WEEK!!!!!!! this, if his time tables are correct (which they most likely arent) will be about right after the first flush.....should he just leave em in the terr. and come back and see what happens or....chuck them before hand. he is going to get some prints off his first flush, and that is all he really wants is to have a successful growing attempt...and get some prints so he doesnt have to spend any more money. could he delay pinning safely? or just any suggestions that might work and he could try them out and let you know what happens? either way, if you have a way to delay...or would like an experiment performed that involves a cake between fushes...or just a cake that can be left alone for a week let him know and he will be happy to carry them out :-)

I'd say if your only other option was chucking them out before you left, to leave them in ! You never know what would happen, and if they're going to be thrown out anyway.....
