Grammar and Spelling are not a Luxury!

They are a necessity damnit!

Every time I see a post that uses no punctuation and poor spelling, it gives me the impression that said post was made by a retard.

Also things to avoid:
~posts composed more than 5% of slang
~using the word "like" (or the ever so common "liek" :rolleyes:) as a conjunction
~generally anything that sounds like it's coming from a dumbass

Seriously, I mean it... posts like that make people want to just ignore you if you make them. They think you're an idiot when they see that sort of thing.

I agree. I mean this is the generation of the internet and short form/slang words. I heard on the news that they're going to be teaching it in school. Then what will you have to say about it?

I don't mind a bit of lax in the english, that's fine. It's easy enough to understand, but when somebody misspells every third word and doesn't use a single punctuation mark, it can be unpleasant trying to figure out what the hell they're saying.

And, considering how awful the resulting post is, you have to ask yourself if it's even worth figuring it out. It's easy to get the impression that the person who wrote it is an idiot.

That's funny, because every time I see a post that complains about punctuation and spelling, it gives me the impression that said post was made by a pompous arrogant prick who needs to get a life.

why don't you go through everything that has ever been written on the internet and correct all the errors with a red pen.  Then you can file the corrections under 'N' for 'Nobody Cares'.

ive always thought pointing out peoples typos/errors or whatever is nit picking but i do it sometimes myself and i wouldnt pull my hair out over it

My spelling and grammer have always been horrible. Its something I am trying to work on/improve

The funny thing is - english has /always/ been my highest marks in school, even at the university level. I often get the comment

"If you were to fix up the grammar in this paper, this could be an A+ paper" .. but, I was happy with an A, so never pushed that extra bit for the A+. The past few weeks, been a bit more concious of it.

I really need to start turning off auto-correct in MS word, so many typos I make and dont even notice because office auto-corrects it for me.

If I can understand the jist of what the person is trying to say without getting a headache, I really don't give a fuck about the specifics of their articulation.
