BRF vs. rye flour
    #538131 -

I usually use brown rice flour, but I'm trying rye flour in an attempt to produce more potent shrooms. I did 4 jars with brf, 4 with Rye flour, and 4 with brf and rye flour mixed 50/50 (all with vermiculite and water also). Does anyone know how they're going to fruit compared with each other? Which are going to produce a higher yield?

I was using rye flour with EQ's and it seemed to me that they colonized pretty damn fast. I decided that I liked rye flour better, partly because it was less expensive and partly because it seemed to colonize faster. The only problem I had was that it made the substrate mix a lot more sticky than when it was made with brown rice flour. If you can scrape it out of the bowl so that the mix is somewhat loose when you pack it into the jars, it does great.

Thanks junkie, TC's are the only one's I havn't done yet so now I know.

Yeah, I noticed the stickyness, any how it packed more lightly. I figured that would help. And rye is supposed to increase the potency of the mushroom too (at least thats what ryche said). So I'm gonna do my TC's with BRF right now, and I'll see how my B+'s work out on the rye and brf.

Does anyone know how B+ turn out on BRF and rye?

I dont think your going to mess your substrate up unless you pressure cook rocks.

What type of rye flour does everyone use? Is Gold Medal suitable for substrate?

I have no idea what gold medal is, but I just use organic rye flour. If it says organic rye flour, then use it. If its not organic it my not work as well.

Yes, I agree with the EQ colonizing faster on rye grain flour.

I don't know why but AFOAF has grown B+ and EQ's on both rye grain and rye grain flour On both, they seem to colonize very fast. With the rye grain, the jars were very warm to the touch!
