I've been using a combination of rye flour and ground millet (75% rye, 25% millet) lately instead of BRF, which seems to work just as good--and even slightly better--than rye flour alone. You may want to try that too, if you can find millet. I just grind it up in a coffee grinder before mixing the two together. One thing's for sure: I'm through with BRF for now!

i have stopped using those types of substrates, i only use finch/verm substrate now. it is alot easier since you dont have to do all that measuring, you just steep some finch and add vermiculite to get it at the right moisture (plain finch is too wet)

Right a_c, but your answer has nothing to do with the subject line or thread. This is not a forum for promotion of our favorite Teks. I for one could have expounded on my improved 9-er Tek. Others might have extoled the virtues of rye. The man had a very simple idea. Why, then confound the issue?

For UK growers looking for this stuff: I got my Organic Rye Flour from Tesco. It was ?1.09 for 500mg.
EDIT - Scrub that, it was ?1.09 for a 1000mg. Thanks for pointing that out Chonger.
Availability was again the cause - no BRF.

Hey cool.......... Glad to see some people trying the dark Rye... I knew if you tried it you`d see the difference in speed of colonizing.... I`m sold on it and will never go back to BRF.... Oh yeah...... and A.C....... I agree with Chemical Monkey.... stick to the thread........... thread=train of thought.... You going off topic on your on little tangent in a thread is kind of annoying to say the least.... If you have another idea....start a new thread
?But I don?t want to go among mad people,? Alice remarked.

Hey ChemicalMonkey,
I can only find Rye flour. It's not labelled Dark Rye flour, and the colour is not very dark, it's an off-white/beige color.
is yours labelled Dark Rye flour? What color is it?
