Do you "see" music? even when sober?

Just wondering if anyone else 'sees' music, or sort of visualizes the music they are listening to in their head? I'm not talking about when just tripping - as for me that?s a given. But even sober, I'll find myself picturing very elaborate scenes in my head to go along with the music.
Generally speaking, it tends to be in the form of dance movement and color. Various sound ranges and progression of chords/etc seem to strike certain colors at me.
Deeper sounds being more in the blue/purple range, with quicker / squelcher sounds being in the reds/yellow/whites.
I tend to visualize the dancers as being kind of basic stick figure shapes - and going in highly choreographed movements to the music, with certain movements to go along with the bass, the beats, and all the other sounds.
A song my friend was playing gave me the very strong mental image of (which I typed to him on MSN, despite him being 5 feet away)
? its very saucy sounding, I can picture a cheeky little girl dancing to this .... (yes, my head is a weird place) more ass wiggling and finger shaking tossed in with 50s style dance in a highly choreographed (sp) "beach blanket bingo" beach-boys movie kinda way?
and to me, that made perfect sense, and I could picture it in my head. Not so much SEE it like a real hallucination, but very much a sense of it ? I could sense the movement and the colour, like having a really vivid imagination.
Needless to say ? throw psychedelics into the mix, and things get very interesting for me.
Or, other times ? the music will give me the sense of giant armies, or hordes of robots battling out (especially some of the really droning minimal techno)
Just wondering if anyone else is the same way ? even when sober?

I see music as a 3D waveform in my head a lot... hard to explain, but it's like I can see the "shape" of someone's voice, for instance. I love to sing, so I tend to concentrate on the vocals.
But I can also "see" the song collectively as a morphing shape in my head...
Not exactly the same as yours.. I don't really see specifics. I see abstract shapes, like a 3D version of what the waveform would look like if you could see it with the fourth dimension of time also visually present.

yea i definately got what you are talking about which didnt start until i smoked weed for the first time and later was enhanced by other hallucinogens. I tend to see scenes like from a movie in my head that would correspond to the music like a soundtrack. I also tend to visualize movements of objects that move accordingly to the beats. Well i am a sound engineer so i enjoy music and being able to visualize things makes it much more enjoyable.

milkdrop is the shit...i throw parties, and for the longest time now, i've used a digital projector to toss milkdrop up on the walls at our different venues and its fuckin sick. i also stream the dj's set to the input and my light crew syncs it up with the lasers. it makes for a wonderful intelligent light show.

edit: also try running milkdrop through xbmc on a modded xbox. its beautiful on a 50" HD.

I still think Electric Sheep is the best - sure, it's not synched up to the music - now and then, it odly does match up, but its not based on the sound output.
But, /most/ of the fractals in that are simply amazing (a few ugly/duds) - and the whole system of creating seamless unique loops is pretty spiffy also.
By far my favorite 'trippy' visual thing.
Milkdrop just looks ugly to me.

milkdrop has came a long way. i know a lot of the fractals are cheesy, i dont like them in general, whatever generator you're using. i didnt really start loving it up until recently...the end of '05. there have been some insane presets that have came out recently....it ranks up there with the hardware visual generators and mixers as of late. it really all depends on what pack you're using also...some of them are straight lame. the new pack that comes with the feb. T3ch release of xbmc has got it on point!
word.

i guess its something my brain learned to do from all the lsd

For example. Not even as much as weed in me right now.
Chris Liebing - Two and a Half Million Years
Very cinamatic sounding big techno track. I'm getting a very strong visual sense of lines of people doing the drumming, but very big and exaggerated drumming - hands flying way over their heads as they drum
and seeing a big long row of armies marching in tune to the beat
it just quickly pops into my head.

yeah... a matter of fact, I usually always visualize things when I listen to music. usually, I think about certain places or settings. but a lot of times it just reminds me of memories too.

When I'm about to fall asleep I get images about the music, ie: a flower swinging at the rhythm of the music, or a face being drawn as the music goes.

This sounds more like what i experience... not necessarily defined entities.. more abstract, like a physical representation of the sound somehow...
