oyster straw logs - hole question
    #5376586 -

hey there !

well i am just fixing myself a very little greenhouse and deal is,
i will be lacking space to hang logs that have got fruiting holes all over.

so question is, would it be possible to only cut Xs for fruiting on just one side of the log ?

the oysters would just fruit from there anyway right ?

reason i am asking is, you usually see oyster logs with Xs all around them
so the oysters can fruit wherever they desire, but as i said above,
this wont be possible in my case.

like this but with the Xs for fruiting all just covering about 1/3rd of the logs surface instead of all around the log:

wowza i hope some people can get my confusing descriptions, lol
id love some input

as long as it stays together i think it would work well. Try it and let us know how it went.

yeah man they'll only want to form pins where there is oxygen to carry the spores away, so wherever you cut is where they'll fruit. Theoretically, few to no mushrooms will fruit where there isn't sufficient air exchange....

In my experience, you need to cut vent holes so that no part of the log is more than 3 inches from the log. The reason I say this is because you create anaerobic areas and I ALWAYS see problems if I don't cut enough holes in a certain area. If you do smaller logs, maybe 1 foot, maybe you could get away with it. I have fruited from filter patch bags with X's cut only where I wanted fruits. This worked as I hoped and no problems. Hope that helps,
Light and Love,
JD
