Spent Oyster straw for agaricus??????
    #875498 -

Because oysters are a primary decomposer and agaricus a secondary........I've seen mention of spent oyster substrate (namely straw) being used for agaricus culture instead of making or buying compost (Almond portabello in particular).

Has anyone used this method with success? Does the straw need to be suplimented.....urea.......bloodmeal......etc......????

Personally, I think you might be asking for some problems....but that's just a gut feeling...

If anyone wants to seriously cultivate oysters, look at getting spent grain from a brewery!!!! It's super-cheap and perfect as a substrate!!! (US$20-30/ton).

It may look like a button mushroom right now, but wait until you see how it grows!
