Laughing Gyms

Just wondering what the best way to tell a laughing gym from other gymnopilus species is.

I would start by using the key in a good field guide as identifying to genus is the first step. The laughing gym (G. spectabilis) often will have a veil and the fruiting body can be pretty good size as well, some of the other gyms are smallish. spore print and habitat should also be taken into consideration. What kind of tree is it growing on? is it growing in a cluster or solitary? Often times there is not a sure fire way to judge a species of mushrooms and an id will have to be arrived at on a case by case basis.

Just kidding, don't do that. Look up various identification traits on this and other sites. Find some, post a great description and pictures, and hopefully you'll get an answer.
