 Big Laughing Gyms!!!

Out here in the Ontario/quebec border, it is real hard to find Psilocybe...allthough they do exist, we only identified one so far, and it is dubious as to whether it is active. That being the case however, we do have a tonne of big laughing Gyms. We have in total collected over four pounds dry. the majority we found actually dried on the trees...it would have taken garbage bags to collect these wet. It was amazing. Waiting to get the pics developed..but here are some pics to hold you guys over.

They are pretty potent, is all I can say here. A friend of mine ate four and he was roickin for 6 hours or more, very triptamine experience, some visuals...euphoria, tingly body, almost like MDMA but more mellow, one could be happy anywhere doing these, and sometime sbursts of laughter, but not uncontrollable...very cool. All together we have found eneugh for about 150 trips, based on the dose my friend took...maybe more.....very cool.

Beautiful pictures of a very interesting species.From what I've heard about these,they tend to taste horrible.Did you find this out when ya'll tried 'em,or were they not as bad as most folks say?

Be Careful! I live in New york and agree that it is hard to find Psilocybes and have also found and ingested Gymnopilus Spectabilis. Those DO NOT look like ones that I have found. Your picture differs in the many different ways. I hope that I am wrong and am only looking out for you. Have you tryed them?

so you have tried these eh? that 1st pic is a beauty!!!
i was wondering how much research you have done on these?
i am looking at a pic of a big laughing gym( gymnopilus spectabilis) and i dont see any resemblance to the laugher.
but it does look like the magic blue gym.( gymnopilus aeruginosus ) . i was wondering of these mushrooms you find bruise blue at all? i personally have zero experience with these gyms so im just kinda lookin thru stamets book reading. but maybe his book is errored , i dont know. i would love to see more pics and tell me more about these mushrooms.

I agree that they don't look ike G Spectabilis. However I have found and tried some G. Spectabs in New York that DO look like the pics in Pauls book.
What I have found with the bluing reation in this species is that its more of a greening reation probably because the color of this species is yellow and bue+yellow= green. However the reaction does not take place upon handling. It is seen where two or more mushrooms grow into eachother and are touching eachother. It takes about 24 to notice any greening reation by handling, if at all.

Shitdog, you just described the only laughing gyms I have ever found to a tee!! I noticed a distinct bluing reaction, but it was only inbetween the stems of the clusters, right where the mushrooms joined at one common base. Now I'm kicking myself in the ass for not picking them!
Guess I'll go check that location again and se what I can find :)

Oh they're still out there, I found some dried up luteofolius the otherday, I'm pretty sure thats what they were anyways. We just need rain badly, hell if it'd rain we might even get a few more cubies, its been in the 70s here during the day, and only in the 50s a night.
RAIN ALREADY DAMNIT!! :)
BTW: Its great to see you posting here SThomas!! Glad you atleast finding a little(or a lot :) of magic this year, too bad no psilocybes yet, keep looking you'll find em :) Great pics too bro! :)

Thanks guys for all of the interest! I was beggining to think that people did not care about these, the ones we found are definitely G. spectabilis...as with many mushrooms there are variances, depending on a lot of things...including potency. The ones that we found vary slightly from the top picture as well, but we are 100% certain as to what they are. And potent as all hell...all I needed were 4...and when dried they are much smaller to give me the trip of a lifetime, probably much different than the experiences you guys have had with most psilocybin species...but amazing. Apart from these all we have found are choice edibles like oysters, P. auruginosa...possibly active, and many different Panneolus but those suckers are hard to properly identify...most likely we have found active ones...but the Gyms by far are the biggest haul to date. Many of the last ones we have found were growing high up in deciduous trees, already close to perfectly preserved and dried...yeah, if they were still fresh we would have needed garbage bags. It is really too bad we spent so much time this season looking for the little bluing bastards that are supposed to exist in our area, otherwise we would have had eneugh to last a lifetime. Well gotta jet but, I would like to discuss this even further with anyone interested, and oh yeah they did bruise a little blue/green, took a while though.

SThomas--- Iwas just checking the Gymnospec pics on Erowid and I saw some just like your pic. I'm trying to find some pictures of the ones I've found to show you cause they look so much diferent than yours. Specifically the caps in your picture are plane; I didn't know that was possible. Also the annulus is like halfway down the stem, I thought that was really wierd.
Hey I was wondering, do the caps on your specimen have this wierd design that look kind of like scales? Well I'll try and find those pics

Yes they do Shitdog. Mine are probably more similar to yours than to these pics. Alltogether we found about a kilo and a half...yeah, we should be rockin for quite some time, I rekon...for you Americans that is about 3 and a half pounds, and this is dry weight...yee-haa.

Now I really want to try Gymnos!! I bet the trip is alot different, but sounds just as interesting. If you lived near by SThomas, I'd take you out picking psilos anytime you'd like :) The little blue bastards can be very elusive, you eventually find a few though, it'll just happen one day when you least expect it. But hell, I'd be happy with a bunch of potent Gymnos, nothing at all wrong with some good ole laughing gyms. If it ever rains again, I'll go see if I can find some. A friend shared a giant patch of them with me, but I haven't got to see if fruit yet, he just showed me where they fruited. Supposidly they are quite common here in GA, and I have little doubt about their activity seeing as the ones I found a year ago did bruise a noticeable blue/green at the base.
Doesn't JLF sell laughing gyms?? Not that I would ever consider ordering from them, just curious as to how they got away with this if these mushrooms do indeed contain psilocybin/cin?

LIzard king- THe trip is different. I just found some yesterday and I'm about to make my Gymno-tea. For some reason when I make this tea we filter out the chunks and don't even have to consume them. I only use about 10 grams wet for a dose. I don't find that you could do that with cubes.
About that new species I think I live closer to GA than SThomas does.
BTW- I'm surprised I forgot about this: I actually found a single specimen ance that had a cap 16 inches in diameter! But the stalk was even more massive. It was semi rotted though so I'm trying to clone it right now. The weight of that sucker was about six pounds! Sorry no pics.
