Bush's New Orleans Lies on Tape

Two days after the levees broke and completely flooded new orleans, the president said in a speech to the public "Nobody could have anticipated those levees would break."

There's video of him in a meeting the day before the levees broke, being told that they were in grave danger. This meeting was taped and the tape has been released to the associated press.

Bush can be seen on tape, in the meeting reading a children's story about goats.

Just kidding about that last part, but seriously. This is big. A huge lie he made that cost the lives of many people he disregarded IS ON TAPE.

Anyone who was watching the news the week before the hurricane hit knew it was going to do an enormous amount of damage. He had no excuse even before this video hit the air.

Well, he didn't technically lie since the expert said "I don't think any model could predict whether it'll top the levees, but that's obviously a grave concern."

this presidency fucking amazes me.

really, these guys have some elephantitis-afflicted brass balls. it's kind of ingenious, the whole "i'm disregarding this so it must not be important" thing. Bush has this cadre of ass-leeching aids that follow him around putting out fires simply by telling people that THERE IS NO FIRE.

the strategy seems to be this:
1.some mishap occurs, exacerbated by presidential oversights.
2.the president lets the media duke it out for a little while, usually doesn't respond immediately.
3.during this time, foxnews brings on some random joe schmoe liberal to "discuss" the issue, who bill o'reilly promptly interrupts, defames, slanders, and, if dude were in the studio, would probably shit in his hand and throw it at him like a chimp. foxnews then proceeds to bombard viewers with other "late-breaking" news and neglects the issue altogether.
4. after a sufficient amount of time passes, some aid holds a press conference or releases an interview in which they a.) state that the president's actions were in step with his information ("intelligence" at times), b.) slight those that think otherwise for being petty and partisan and trying to attack the president; there are inevitably "more important" matters to attend to. besides, it's more complicated than you realize, there are many factors that contributed to x. you liberals are just simplifying the issue to make a case out of nothing. sore losers, you guys are.
5. Bush still hasn't said shit. He may have made an address about some other shit, but not a word about the issue. He maybe hasn't been around at all; holed up in the oval office, laughing hysterically about his bulletproof-ness, binge drinking, freebasing coke with his Jeb's daughter, making a trip to south america, maybe fucking the family dog, who knows. definitely not talking about the issue though. what issue?
6. after sufficient time has passed for the news media to develop some new sensation, someone askes the president about this issue at a press conference. at this point we're like a month away from the incident. bush responds along the lines of "huh? oh, right, that. well, we made the best decisions we could with the information we had at the time. i think we're doing well with x. now on to what i was talking about."

and magically, that's it. issue x has been neutralized. in fact, we're not even sure there was an issue x. now, when people bring it up the NEXT time Bush fucks up, the administration berates them for drudging up shit that was never important to begin with. "don't you remember back when that happened? we already dismissed that shit, that's like, months ago. where the hell have you been? we're here in the NOW, buddy, with these present issues. why can't you be a team player here, help the country, you partisan fuck?"

mark my words, the same thing will happen with this Katrina thing that has happened with the scores of other Bush mishaps. they've already begun the posturing:

"I hope people don't draw conclusions from the president getting a single briefing," presidential spokesman Trent Duffy said. "He received multiple briefings from multiple officials, and he was completely engaged at all times."

who the fuck is Trent Duffy anyway?

confuse the issue, downplay the significance, question the motive of the accuser, and then move on to more important shit, PROVING, as it were, that there is no issue, because if there was, well, we'd be dealing with it.

if i wasn't so revolted, i'd be impressed by how well these bastards do this.

the term "sitting duck" is used for presidents nearing the end of their second term, they don't have to worry about popularity because there are no more reelection prospects, so they can theoretically do as they wish.

as for powerless figurehead, i'm not too sure about that. granted, a great deal of the executive actions in any presidency (particularly this one) are the result of cabinet members, committee's, etc. but the president still does wield a great deal of power (which this administration has expanded.....) and as much as I disdain the man he's not exclusively a string puppet danced around by Cheney and co. he has his own agenda to push like every other politician.


lastly, things get leaked to the AP all the time. shit, we can't even keep the identities of CIA operatives confidential (not saying that wasn't politically motivated). i'm sure the leak did have some political intent, but I don't think it was part of some grand scheme being implemented by the shadow government to oust G.W. he's on the way out anyways.

This isn't the first time he's said something stupid. Thats kinda wierd that he'd say no one could of anticipated the levees to break although he said the exact opposite thing before it happened. I don't think thats the lie being told, I think he just did that out of stupidity saying that. To lie about something like that, makes me question if he might be developing Alzheimers.
