Prolonging Casings?
    #535009 - 01/29/02 01:38 PM (22 years, 2 months ago)

I was wondering, could one make a casing, fruit it to exhaustion, then take the substrate and recase it with a new layer of vermiculite on bottom and a new layer of Jiffy mix on top? Would the old substrate colonize the new jiffy mix and have a new fruiting cycle? If so could one keep on doing this over and over therefore eliminating the need for jars once you've got the cycle going?

Unless ya live in a compeltely sterile lab you will eventually have your casing fall to contamination. Eeven if your were to surpass that problem the nutrients in your original casing would run out before another useful casing could be made from the original.

So basically, no it won't work.

Peace
