To dunk or not to dunk?
    #530872 - 01/25/02 08:59 AM (22 years, 2 months ago)

I have a question for all of you very knowledgable people. I have some cakes that I birthed about a week ago. They seemed kind of dry and shrunken when they were birthed but I negelected to dunk them then. I planned on dunking them between flushes and I probably should have dunked them when they were birthed, but I figured that being in a humid terrarium with damp perlite would help them enough. Now some of the cakes are showing dry patches. The primordia is still developing and some of the cakes are showing the first signs of pinning, but no dark pinheads yet; just small shoots coming off of the primordia. My question after all of this is: can I still dunk these cakes to get some moisture into them, or should I wait until after the first flush at this point? My worry is that there will not be enough moisture to produce a decent flush. Any advice will be much appreciated.

I suggest you case your cakes with some damp verm.

If you are a little reluctant to try crumbling and casing.....dunk it for 12 hours....completely submerged. Then dab excess water off with a paper towel and replace in your terrarium. Dunking really kicks reluctant cakes in the ass. I`ve tried it and got some fat-asses pop out that way. Good luck

I let my humidity get too low on a first flush. After I got it
right, my pins didn't resume growing. They sat there about
a week only about 3/8" long. I cleaned them all off the cake
and dunked in a ziplock, distilled water, in the frig for 12
hrs. Two days later my new pins were bigger than the
ones I took off. 6 days after dunking I was harvesting.
So I'd say "To Dunk!" Good luck!

Ok Crete,

Listen Carefully, cause I am here to save you
* should change my name to captain Redundant!!!*

First off, let your cakes finish thier flush, won't hurt anything,
and even the lihtest cakes can surprise you...

But from now on...

When cakes are fully colonized on the outside, wait one week before birthing.
Dunk in SPRING water for 24 hours.  You can use distilled in your fruiting chamber, but spring water carries nutrients and is ideal for dunking.

After the dunk place in fruiting chamber.

After first flush, clean cake real good, scrape it up a lil, and dunk
for 6 to 12 hours, after the next flush The cake will have PLENTY of water
already, simply toss into ziplock and put in fridge overnight, then you will prolly get a weak third flush... I never go beyond two, wastes space to keep old cakes.

Bury them somewhere or put thm in a plastic bag outside, they will flush again in the bag on thier own....

You can also use resovoir teks, but, start at dunking.
