a few more dunking questions

One thing that confuses me about dunking is that I I've read that big water droplets in direct contact with the mycelium isn't good for cakes or casings. If it's bad to spray the cakes directly or have water dripping or condensing on them how does dunking not harm them?
Also, if I begin fruiting my cakes in vitro, can I still dunk them before the first flush without harming the pins?
And finally, I've noticed that the cakes I made with 50cc of water colonized a few days faster than than the ones with 60cc. Since the 50cc cakes colonized quicker but the 60cc cakes are supposed to fruit better, could I just make them all with 50cc to speed colonization and then dunk after birthing to replace the water for a better flush?

Yes, I've been eating them, for six or seven weeks now, haven't got sick once.

You don't want droplets on the cake because it can damage fragile hyphal knots and tiny pins. It can also promote bacterial growth on the cake.
Dunking is a tek that is meant to (re-)hydrate a cake after birthing or after flushing. If your cake were totally hydrated, you'd be better off not doing it... but the major problem with cakes is that they dehydrate so quickly and don't really have and built-in way to add water (unless you use like a resoivoir or straw tek, in which case you might just as well put the extra effort into casing the damn things).
So, in conclusion, dunking is not exactly GOOD for the existing primodia and pins, but can rehydrate a cake so future primodia and pins have the chance to turn into mushies.

Cool, thanks guys. I'll wait until the first flush is done before I dunk my cakes in case I screw anything up. Maybe I'll try the straw tek on a few, dunking a few, and doing nothing to a few cakes to see what works the best.

It is not bad to spray cakes directly PROVIDED they have no pins. Just like it is bad to dunk a cake that has pins. if u see any, remove them before dunking..if u dont then dunk her!! I cant speak for any1 else but every time i dont dunk , i get none or very lil fruits at the end. But right now i dunked 2 of my cakes and now i see , like, 10 visible pins on one and 5 on the other.... which already has exceeded the cake that wasnt dunked! Dont forget to put a double verm casing on the cakes after u dunked them! Just pat them down dry carefully. The cake is very fragile and u want to handle with care. Wash ur hands very good. In about 5-7 dayz u should start noticing pins...as oppose to not dunking in which case u may see pins around the 7-10 day mark. I put my cake in a ziplock bag fill with distilled water and seal it. Then i put the bag in a small container that has a tight lid . I wanna make sure no smells of contams from other food sources in the fridge can leak into the cakes. 24 hours later, take them suckers out and back in the chamber they go! U have nothing to lose and much more to gain
good luck
