IF you grow pf style dunking is the best thing you can do for you cakes. Best time to dunk is before the first flush. If you dunk before the first flush the first flush should rarely be less then 50 grams.

Dunk before the first flush and right after you pick every other flush for maximum yeild. I used to cultivate and when i did i did pf style for about 2 years. I tried every method of rehydration and nothing compared to dunking (yeild wise, it can be a pain to dunk a shitload of cakes).

The process that i used to use to dunk was this.

Get a big pot, fill it up mostly with tap water. Throw this on the stove and let it boil for a bout 10 min or so. Take a dinner plate and use this for the cover. Take the pot off the stove and let it cool. Once to room temperature sit the pot on a towel(overflow should happen cuz you want max amount of water as possible). Throw cakes in use the dinner plate (you know how they are shaped) to hold the cakes under good. Leave em sit dunking for 6-24 hours. Take cakes out and dab off extra moisture and place in fruiting chamber.

Cakes getting Dunk

The Results.

The other cake (the one in top left) was a little behind the other and i dont remember its weight. The one cake almost had a 60 gram first flush. If you grow cakes dunk before first flush.

Sorry about no thumbnails i was using the same pics i uploaded a long time ago and didnt wanna waste more space reuploading.

thanks for the info man.. did you just leave the pot out in the open, or put it in the fridge? Also, is that a full size dinner plate or like a smaller bread plate? Can?t tell from the pictures, and I just wanted to make sure I got it right.

Easiest way to dunk cakes:
Buy a bottle of mt. spring water
birth cake
fill jar you just used to colonize the cake with 1 1/4 oz of the water
put cake back in jar and gently push down
seal jar
place in refridgerator for at least 12 hrs.
after 12 hrs. remove jar from refridgerator
open jar over a large bowl to catch excess water
place in fruiting chamber
cake does not require alot of water to rehydrate, it wont even come close to using the 1 1/4 oz.
the combo of dunking and coldshocking yeilds 1st flushes of 50 - 60 grams WET.
thats easily 4X more than w/out dunking.
the jar you used to colonize is the perfect size to dunk with, pressing down on the cake will ensure the whole cake gets at least a little wet.

I think it?s so funny when people ask how to dunk, just because it?s such a simple concept.  And then everyone makes it so complicated! You don?t even have to birth...

a) Scrape verm layer off cake (if you have one)
b) Fill jar with water

Bada-bing, bada-boom!  Fridge em if you wanna cold shock, mineral water is probably better but i use tap water ( I have pretty good quality tap weter though).

hehe.. yeah, it is a simple concept, but you just wanna be careful ya know   I kind of figured that the cakes didn?t have to be completely submerged, but that was contrary to everything I read.. I?ll give it a shot with the original 1/2 pint jars..

BUT! I?m gonna make it complicated again  I already cleaned and ran the jars through the dishwasher, and they?ve been sitting back in the box for a couple days now.. should I re-wash them, or you think they?ll be ok as it?

You should wipe them out with rubbing alcohal then place them face down on a clean paper towel. It has been my experience that when you lay them face doen on a cotton towel the contamination rate goes up.

In the past i used a paper towel to dab off excess moisture.

I never contammed cakes. Id say i lost no more then 1/30 cakes before then 2nd flush do to mold.

I use the plate dome side down to keep the cakes nice and submerged. After you boil the water you can put it in the fridge if you want to speed up the cool down.

Llamanose when i used to cultivate i didnt have an endless supply of jars(usually after birth i would clean em and put more substrate in them) to use and dunking after the first flush its not a good idea to put em back in jars again to dunk i think.

With a big pot you can do about 6 at a time and i have quite a few big pots.

Im not so sure the boiling the water step is necessary i just did it cuz it worked consistently.

Don't have any rubbing alcohol around (yes, I will go buy some later  ... but for my knowledge..) will hydrogen peroxide do the job as well? Or does it leave a residue? Whatta bout lysol?

Also, thanks baraka for clearing that up!

Use rubbing alcohol on your hands and you work area. Lysol really doesnt take contams out the air just the surface it lands on.

Hydrogen peroxide is not a good substitute to use on surfaces and your hands to sterilize.
