Birdseed tek ques, and pc condensation question.
    #529271 - 01/23/02 04:40 PM (23 years, 2 months ago)

Hi everyone! I tried searching for an answer before putting this one up but couldnt find anything. Two questions.

1. CAn u go without gypsum with the birdseed tek?

2. I had condensation inside the tinfoil when i took the jars out the pc. I didnt like the idea of putting the exact same (wet) foil back on the jars after incoculation , so i quickly took some fresh foil, sprayed each new pice with lysol as i went from jar to jar so that i had a sterilized fresh piece of foil covering each jar. I also wiped the rim with alcohol since there was some condensation on the top of the lid and rim. Does this sound ok?

If you are using the drilled holes and tape method ,there is no need to retun he foil to the to of the jars. The foil is just to keep more moisture from entering the jar while it is in the PC. Just innoculate and give the lid about a 1/4 turn counter-clockwise to let the substrate breathe. And use bird seed wihtout gypsum... it is`nt necessary but I`ve heard it helps the seed not to clump in the jar when shaking.
