air exchange

If i have a simpal aquarium air filter pluged in set for 30 mins morning, 30 mins night, after birthing the cakes. is the good air exchange? Is this air gbad for my cakes that comes strait out of the air filter pluged in to the wall.

I've never seen a simpal aquarium, or a simpal aquarium air filter. Do lots of people filter the air into their aquariums? I guess fish my like fresh air too? So, it sounds like you have turned the simpal aquarium filter on and off twice after birthing your cakes? The good or the goods would be the shrooms after they mature, not the air exchange. I would assume that air that is gbad for your cakes would be provided by a simpal gbad air filter. I'm not really sure what you or asking.

This depends on the size of the container and the capacity of the air pump. So you need a volume figure and a "volume per time" figure to answer your question.

ok my first post above i typed an i put Air Filter, I ment Air Pump, lol,
i have 2 grow containers,
one is like 5 or 8 gallons in a rubermaid
the other one is much bigger, 15 gallon rumber maid,
in the 5-8 gallon i assume when i birth the cakes i put the air pump on 30 mins mornig and 30 mins at night, tell they pin, is this right?? becuase i was told this by some guy who dint really know?

I assume that the lids are on the containers and that you are using perlite for humidifying?

Many people get away with fanning their cakes/casings a couple of times a day with no trouble. Most of the mushrooms people in this forum grow require little air exchange.

The optimal air exchange rate is 1-3 air exchanges per hour. This will most likely require a humidifier to prevent the cakes/casing from drying out. I don't know that perlite would be enough.

You can cover up the output of the air pump with a bag of known volume, time the inflation, and calculate the air exchanges per hour of the pump.

example:
v1= volume of bag (gallons)
v2= volume of free space in container (gallons)
t1= time to fill bag (seconds)

so, [v1/(t1/3600)]/v2 = Air Exchanges per Hour

So, from this number, you can find out how long it would take for the pump to completely cycle the air once. You could then hook up the air pump to a recycling timer and set it for the number of air exchanges that you want. Alternatively, you can use this number to find out how long it takes to manually flush the air in the grow boxes, so that you don't unnecessarily dry out your cakes for too long.

I'm not saying that you have to go to all of this trouble. The simple answer would be to see if 30 mins/morning and 30 mins/night is enough, and if you get stunted or abnormal growth, try 3 times a day, or for 40 minutes, etc.

Also, once you have established an air exchange rate that induces pinning, keep up the air exchange. Don't stop 'till they mature. Humidity is of less concern after pinning, but avoid drying.

i run a 60 gal air pump on each 30 gal rubbermaid with an air-stone on a glass of water i run them 24/7. fresh air and light are essential to better pin-sets
