Casing question for a pro...

My friend has Cambos in Finch seed cased on a bed of Perlite and covered with Peat/Verm. They were cased on the 8th of Jan. I exposed them to light on the 12th and the mycellial growth was hearty untill about 3 days ago. He's wondering if they should be pinning by now or what. They have been in constant 75*F and Rh about 82% and artificial light 24/7 (an incandecent light bulb) They did have a couple of pretty dry days due to a problem with the chamber. I know they get plenty of moisture from the bottom since I have injected water into the Perlite layer occasionally. I also have a capfull or three of H2O2 in the perlite water to fight off mold and a small amount in the Ultrasonic Humidifier for the same reason... They smell very good also, no foul odors. No colour except white.

You got your answer, from a pro! Be Patient! Knowing what sombody else thinks "should have happened" isn't going to make your shrooms grow any faster unless you're ready to start changing shit around. You already have your setup. Now you have to wait. Bad mouthing a veteran isn't going to get you the answers you want to hear and could adversly affect the replies of future posts. If you don't like the answers you get, Ask Your Mom! Maybe she can help ya!

your setup sounds prime..sometimes mycelium can be halted for a while when you use peroxide but it doesnt sound like you used enough for that. the only other thing is humidity which it sounds like youve got under contol, so it must just be a little sluggish. Like he said, the best thing you can do is wait. You may also want to check air exchange although I doubt that is the problem.

Thanks fresh, I have been fanning 2 - 4 times daily. I guess my main concern is about the stalling of the growth. I have heard that H2O2 can slow, even stop growth of the Mycellia. I also had a couple of dry days there (due strictly to my neglect) where Rh got to 50% or so. My other concern is that according to various teks and such, mycellial growth will stall prior to pinning. I was wondering about the general length of that peroid, as apparently the stall right now is due to the H2O2.

you are welcome. 2-4 times daily should be enough. As far as the delay period, shroom growing never was an exact science, we do the best we can to make the environment suitable and let the organism take it from there. As you grow youll find minor discrepancies often but in general, growth will stay within reasonable parameters. I bet you probably wouldnt have asked if they werent cambodians...you probably witnessed stellar growth and were suprised at they delay.

Thanks enter, The nose never lies and it's telling me things are ok too. Just wanted to hear it from a more experienced grower. This is my first time casing. :-)
