Bulk Substrate Dilemma
    #522436 - 01/16/02 12:59 PM (22 years, 1 month ago)

I'm trying to make a bulk substrate with rye grain to mix with compost. Does anyone know if i need to steep the grain (kernels, rather than berries) before sterilizing. And how much water should i use?

I place mine in a bowl filled with grain about 1/2 the bowl then cover with water mixed with a little gypsom and let it sit over night the next day I drain the excess water off rinse my rye and let it drip dry for 1 hours or so then put in jars and PC at 15psi for 45 minutes to 1 hour

You can find gypsum anywhere with garden supplies or a hardware type store.
