i love kombucha.. we make it whenever we can, havent had much honey lately.. checkout kombu.de they have lists of folks who will send you a culture that are experienced doing so.. its really awesome stuff, we were thinking at one point of going small scale commercial with it.. selling it here and there at the local coops.. we had a showing one time and the public was really into it.. had lots of questions on when we were gunna put it in stores etc.. never manifested though, maybe someday...

some say vinegarry, some say sweet, depends on how you make it.. its like a yummy fizzy drink.. really potent, i usually just need a sip, but ive dranken whole glasses before, yum!

Potent? In what way? How does it make you feal? I hear it is realy a good drink. But i dont hear anything other then people saying that its REALLY REALLY GOOD

It also has alcohol, about 2%.  Mrs rabbit gets drunk when she drinks two glasses of it.  It's her project.  She has a ton of babies and is using all my jars... :frown:

tough to put it into words.. for me it i have used it to quicken digestion.. usually i pass 10-15minutes after drinking it.. it is energizing in a way.. kinda brightens everything up, gives a spark or something.. hard to describe..

I don't know much about it, except for the poster of gourmet/medicinal mushrooms I have....there is a pic of a drink that is made with it.....the description says that it isn't really a fungus at all but something yeast based.

about fungal relationships..

a weird idea ..
kombucha is a mixture of many different organisms
sharing the same culture medium..
forming this "blob".. and its excrements are drunken..

how about trying to add yet another member into this mixture..
a real fungal partner, like a reishi perhaps??
if it would adapt into this, less sterility is needed, and then
the best parts of reishi (mycelium secretes) would also
be part of that beverage..

There's a thought....I am getting ready to send shipping for a baby - when I have a couple going I'll try your idea by adding live reishi chunks and chunks of other mushrooms just to see.

The Ganoderma would grow mycelium, which would remain separate from the tea produced by the yeast. You'd have to grind up the mycelium to consume it, then the taste of the kombucha which is otherwise tolerable, would become horrible like reishi.
