First LC contaminated or not ... Pics
    #5209652 -

Ok done a Malt and dextrose(well glucose) LC (PC for 25mins then through coffie filter then back to pc for 15 mins ... all from the same mix) and done 4 of them ... one melted haha first time using Pressure cooker... The other 3 were glass and metal lids. So inoculated with B+ , Golden Teacher, Transkei  ... Went away on a holiday for 5 days came back and i dont know which ones are good and which are contaminated

Num 1 and 2 has polyfill and silicone on inoculation points .. number 3 has just silicone on inoculation points and NO breath hole

Number1 (some of the stuff is the glue and wrapper from the jam jar but is on the outside)

Number 2
(completely smokey, not much sediment apart from on the bottom but its not see through at all doesnt look like mycelium)

Number3 ( b+ looks brilliant, loads of fluffy white stuff floating around never really sits on the bottom and has bits of black spores floating around, was a heavy spore syringe)

so have i one good LC(num3) and 2 bad ones or do i have 2 good ones and one bad one(num3)

If you cant make out the pics then can you tell me if theres a better way to take the pics of LC

hey remain... Its Light Malt Extract and normal sugar wont do it has to be dextrose really ... both of these you can get in a beer brewing store or beer brewing online. Do a search on either shroomery main page or on the forum search for Malt Extract Liquid Culture

No 2 looks bad. it is hard to know with the others. My current recipie is
900ml water
100ml apple juice (fruice)
29g glucose
this gives 4% sugar content and is crystal clear. I am not using filters on any of my jars anymore, just filtered syringes. I have had a lot of jars fail from contams passing through the filters. You cannot shake the jars well if they have filters, aeration is needed for good LC growth. Make sure to put 2 holes in the lid for the filtered syringe to equalise the pressure.

Cloudiness in a culture is usually a bacterium of some sort. It should be crystal clear, or as clear as it was when the ingrediants were mixed. It's hard to tell with those pics, but i'm betting on bacteria.

Proteins can take several day to fall out of solution in malt or honey mixtures. It is usually mistaken for myc growth, it should settle to the bottom but if stirred up it can appear cloudy. However I have never seen proteins causing the fine cloudy effect in jar 2.
My apple juice recipie remains very clear, as does Karo. Karo seems to be a US item, but I cannot imagine anybody not being able to get apple juice.

This is a honey jar with proteins that the myc seemed to cling to.

These are honey water that was allowed settle, then the proteins were left behind with careful pouring.

Ive inoculated Rye with jar 3 and inoculated another one with jar 1 ... and with all jars i put them onto some agar

still waiting on petris to arrive so used small sample jam jars

That was 1 n half days ago so no sign of any growth what so ever so fingers crossed that soon it starts

Im going to try 3 different LC ... honey, apple juice, malt  and use the same syringe and strain in all 3 and in the same type of jars etc with NO breath holes and see which one works best and shows the mycelium clearer

and thanks for the apple juice recipie and blackout do you have PE? i got all the other species im looking for except that

No I dont have PE, and want it myself!
I presume you got the rye in a health store? I got mine in dun laoghaire before but it costs a fortune. wheat is said to work just aswell. I get 6kg of wheat for ?2.80 in the pet shop in sallynoggin next to powercity. Many pet shops will sell it.

If you want to try sclerotia I should be growing some atlantis in a LC soon. We could meet up to swap it, I still want some of that horse shit you got.
