Is this contaminated?

and next day:
https://postimg.org/image/7j75vme5v/
https://postimg.org/image/wp842hxgj/
It's more snow white and fluffy now then it was originally(See first 2 images then next day images). The original photo's were taken as before the cakes were transplanted from sterile jar to cultivation bag.

Sorry if the quality is bad was hard to get a good picture while in the cultivation bag.
Any help would be appreciated. I can take more pictures if it would be of assistance.
Thanks in advance.

Are people not commenting because impurity is displayed so obvious and I appear an oblivious fool with a twinkle in my eye?
Or is it the contrary, where my ponderings are interpenetrated rhetorically?
A mist of confusion settles.

If its going fuzzy it'll be due to lack of FAE. Put some more holes the bag

Alright cool thanks. I keep my cultivation bags in a pretty well ventilated room with a fan and stuff and I air the bag at least twice a day, any reason why FAE is so commonly problematic? The guide I was following said to just refresh the air daily, is that not always the case? Thank you.

I've found with bags like you have FAE is a problem. They're more suited for colonizing grains. Are you doing more cakes? If so you would be better off with a SGFC.

Yes I have 4 cakes in total. 2 of which have just fully colonized inside and out and I've just put both of them in a cultivation bag. I will check out SGFC but I have really limited work-space but I'll take a gander.
What is the easiest way to gauge FAE and humidity deficiency or abundance without devices for monitoring?

No fuzz and no stretching FAE is good. Humidity will be mist as needed.

SGFC can be any size storage box. I use 80L box. I've got 7 cakes in it. But if you don't have enough cakes then use empty jars to fill the void.

Sweet, that's good to know. I'm learning. I think honestly I wanna just finish up with the bags and dehydrate and store the fruits of my labor. I'll likely be changing living situations soon and I'll experiment with more "lab type" set ups yielding fairer results. I got about 2' x 3' to work with right now haha. You've been a huge help and if you don't mind I wanted to share this picture of the cake. I dunked it overnight and put it back in the bag when I woke up. Is the bluish coloration normal? /

The blue is bruising. It could be too dry or handled roughly. Did you dunk while those pins was there? Looks like some of them pins are aborting. Oh and bruising could be from misting too close.

Dunk after birth then fruit then dunk again after harvest. Don't do it in the middle of a flush.

Yeah It was dunked while those pins were there. I was instructed to do so on another tread I made for advice (see https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/25024803)

Anyways yeah this morning I observed some new healthy looking fat pins, however the skinny long pins that were there before I dunked are still dark blue and not growing. Should I cut them out or leave them? Thank again my friend.

Remove them, twist n pull. If left they'll rot and cause bad shit. Leave the ones that look ok remove the dark ones. Also with that lid, turn it so the lip is facing up and bottom water. Change water water every 8 to 12 hrs. Should sort the blueing too.

Ok I've removed the tainted growths.
Is it safe and sensible to consume these premature mushrooms? I'm not in a hurry to "feel good" but I do not want to waste anything that could be useful.
They would be dehydrated and consumed when the time is right (if it's safe to do so).
Now I should flip the lid, then add water to the bottom (so the cake will absorb it) is that what your recommending? :smirk:

Yea I hear ya man, I know I need a new chamber. I was following a shitty guide that said to only grow it in a cultivation bag, but that wasn't working due to lack of FAE. I'll go out and get some perlite I guess.

Also you said it looks all good, free of contamination, but whats that yellowish-tan looking discoloration from? I never saw it before? Needless to say overnight the shrooms grew a lot and they seem like they will be ready for harvest soon I hope.

12 hours after the last pic. I think she'll make it till the end. I should throw the cake out after fruiting, if I try to dunk it and refruit it will surely succumb to contamination right?

Them shrooms should be ready soon. Harvest and redunk. If it goes bad you've not lost out as you was gonna chuck anyway.

Good to know, I'll try to dunk and just keep it separate from the other cakes just in case. I think I'll pick up perlite and a plastic tub for a SGFC if I have time tomorrow (today was busy). I got 3 cakes soaking right now.  Thanks again for your huge help. Between your advice here and the shroomery FB page I'm learning a bunch. Cheers.

Not a huge yield but I feel very satisfied there was fruit to be harvested.
A SGFC has been built and well see how the cakes do

Dehydrating the fresh fruit for 5 hours on 160F, will that be enough dryness for long-term storage? After having cracker dry mushrooms,  what is the best container to store them in. (I don't have any vacuum seal stuff)
Would UV-resistant glass with a threaded lid be good? Like vitamin bottle?
Would it be wise to add a desiccant?

Thnx

temps above 90F have been theorized to deactivate the active alkaloid in magic mushrooms, so i recommend NOT putting the min the oven.

I let my mushrooms sit out for about 2-3 days and then i put it in a dehydrator for a day, some people use a cardboard shoe box and/or a fan.

I've never use silica jel for drying stuff out. I use it to keep things dry tho. Facisistbullyboy, how long does it take to dry em out using your method?

I put mine on a radiator. They sit for 12 to 24 hrs until dry. I should've said I store mine in a jar with a packet of gel.

Also there is a fair few people who use dehydrators that are set to 160f and there is no loss of potency. Same as making mushie tea.

That is not true at all what so ever. If temps above 90F did that, then tea would not work.

Re: Is this contaminated? [Re: Mhushu]

Hi Mhushu,

I'm not a very experienced grower but I've tried to dunk the cake in between flushes with small undeveloped fruiting bodies and it didn't work out very well. Some were aborting after the dunk and those which didn't developed into quite ugly shrooms of mediocre size.
So I stopped doing that and started cutting all unmatured fruiting bodies before each redunk. This works really well. A few days after redunking the cakes and placing them back in the FC new primordia start to develop and from them I get very nice and healthy shrooms. So for me there is absolutely no advantage in letting undeveloped fruiting bodies on the cake during a redunk.
I also don't twist the shrooms but cut them with a scalpel which I always first flame sterilize and then cool quickly down with an ipa spray. I never had any issues with this method so I don't see any reason to try any other method. But twisting and pulling may work fine as well. If that works for you its totally fine.
Another point: Right after birthing your cakes you should dunk them for 24h and then put a layer of dry vermiculite on them to cover the naked mycelium. A few hours after rolling them in the vermiculite you can mist them to soak the dry vermiculite. If you do it to early, a lot of the vermiculite will fall of the cake. I do the extra step and bake the vermiculite for 30 minutes in the oven at 150°C or 300°F just to make sure there are no contaminations in it. But many people also skip this step without issues.

What I also can confirm is that spraying a large amount of water directly on the cakes while they are fruiting is totally unproblematic. I try not to hit the shrooms directly because they can get too moisty and need more time to dry after the harvest. But otherwise there's no problem so far. I really think that giving the cakes a lot of water during the fruiting leads to bigger shrooms.

Whaaat? Lol i geuss that was a bit of info i never decided to second guess.....

HOLD UP! That means my FOAF can make shroom brownies? He's only been using methods of cooking without too high of temp (like tempering chocolate).

Whenever my FOAF make shroom tea, it was very weak compared to taking them with chocolate or capsules.

Isnt the active alkaloid water-soluble? Why would there be such a large potency loss?

When it comes to shrooms I'm definitely a 5G person. Any less I won't feel a thing. I always make a brew with mine or it can take a good hour to kick in. So I grind up 5g chuck it in a mug of coffee and wait for drinking temp. 20 mins later the walls are melting.

But yeah temp don't seem to affect potency and there is plenty here discussing it.

It's like when people make canna oil. They seem to think that using moldy bud is bad. Since doing this hobby I've found that mold isn't an issue. Boiling off the alcohol kills the spores. Probably a stoner ramble that last bit.

A FOAF (a bodybuilder) can take .2 of his stuff and feel something.

1 gram is a trip
2 gram feels like a roll
3.5 grams lets you talk to aliens

My FOAF has to find different methods because he gags when he smells/taste dried mushroom. Brownies, cake, cookies! All great ideas, but he's worries about the temps.

5 grams is a good bit, but you dont strain your mushies out? No wonder is still works for you! But issnt mushy tea suppose to be used with wet fruit? You then strain out the plant matter. Im sure theres different methods, but im talking about this one.

I dont consider it a tea unless you strain out the plant matter. Its more of a lemon tek in my book if you drink the plant matter also.

Kinda everything off topic here, but: Why don't try alcohol extraction? Should preserve potency while making the consumption less nasty.

I could say I've got mushy soup that tastes like coffee lol. I e read melted chocolate with shrooms in is nice. I feel the need to eat/drink em as well as I feel you're chucking a good bit away.

Also as above try alcohol extraction. Or soaked in honey, I've read a tek about that somewhere. But with the booze he can evaporate some off so 1ml is equal to 1g

My FOAF is worried about the potency loss. The only time he ever disliked his trip was when it didnt have its full potential. Hes a "go hard or go home" kinda guy (ungrateful)

You can also make shroom Jello!

Make shroom tea with fresh mush and strain out the organic matter, then mix that water with some jello, put it in a fridge, boom shroom jello

But back to cake and booze.

Have you had experience with the -OH extraction Kapps/Facistbullyboy?

Also, overall, i think temp has an effect on potency. Ive been reading that 160F is okay, but thats borderline about to fuck up the potency. If you search this, most people say there is a potency loss. Correct me if im wrong Ziran or who else ever, please.

Fasictbullyboy, or whoever should run an experiment on your next shroom tea/coffees. Like varying temps of boiling water for X amount of time(212F, 150F, & 100F). Compare the trips by making trip logs? Just an idea, its just my FOAF cant stomach this experiment himself.

Youre the man

I actually saw a video on youtube of someone debunking that method, but i could be wrong, it was just one video.

Cultures through history have used honey to PRESERVE the mush/food. I dont think the alkaloids seep into the honey quick enough. Sounds kinda good tho, i like honey.

Probably genetics man. some people batter and deep fry their mushrooms.

.2 will make my FOAF feel something, and 1 gram will have my friend tripping.

https://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/5019764

The thread is old, but it short and to the point. Theres another attached thread in there too. People theorize 160F being the highest temp before they degraded in potency.

Thank you for bringing this up though. My FOAF will be turning up his dehydrators temps.

So "my friend" took the mushrooms "my friend" grew and told the experience is this. The dosage was probably about cracker dry 1 - 2 grams. Hard to tell cuz there was no scale. It was taken in ladder dose because the tripper hasn't done any trips and has hardly smoked bud in YEARS (bud would often give them anxiety and would only be enjoyable in laughably small amounts.) After the last ladder dose was ingested roughly 30 minutes later it was clear the mushrooms were "sinking their teeth in".They stopped what they were doing, put on the Shpongle album "Nothing Lasts" turned the lights off any laid in bed. It was described to me as: A warm feeling, like a comforting blanked was rolled over me. There was no fear of the strong effects, It was more hypnotizing. It was really easy to relax and be calm there was nothing to worry about. The feeling was like the body being infected by the mushroom, like its spores or substance was effectively spreading throughout the body and taking root. It wasn't an alarming feeling, in fact it felt very nice. They were surprised by the strong effects on what was thought to be close to 1.5 gram taken over 3 hours slowly. They have taken 3.5+ gram trips before from fresh picked treasure coast mushrooms (FL) and this was defiantly stronger and more insightful. So much was being taught it was astonishing. A native american was tapping the front of his spear while dancing, very obvious his message was saying "don't focus on the past, don't look back. The tip of the future is all that matters." Also an verbal observation formulated in the mind was admired as "Wow.. can't believe how safe it feel here in the bed, even though these profound thoughts thundered down from the heavens like spears landing in the field, there was plenty of acreage so he felt he had a safe distance to observe and investigate without being struck. Also It was so comforting and calming to know how life was just like a Greek drama, nothing really mattered, death IS clearly not the end. He wondered, wow this is amazing, but who is really behind all this? Is it some god? some plant? Instantly he could see his huge shadow in the background moving pieces around, the tripper knew he was behind ALL of this. A broad smile widened across his face and soft laughter came easily (A wonderful feeling). Another observation was seeing problems in life on a multi-surfaced texture, the side of the texture that glimmered in the light, well that was the problem in the event. Problems make up 1 part of everything, they aren't the whole thing they are just simply a piece of the whole. Just like you couldn't see light without dark, or happiness without sadness. This was very comforting and life just flowed. Well that's about all he can say about the trip. In spite of these profound insights and the journey there was no open eyed hallucinations besides a somewhat distorted view like everything looked a little fuzzy. It was amazing because there was so much more insight then ever experienced by the tripper but there was lack of visuals which wasn't minded, strange how before they've observed the doors and walls breathing and ceiling showing patterns of the unimaginable but never this much insight.

Sorry for posting this here, I will delete it if it bothers anyone, I know this isn't a trip report thread but I felt like sharing "their" experience since you guys were such a big help in the process of making it happen! Peace and love!

This is your post bro no worries! Lol we were talking about cooking mushies earlier if that didnt bother you

But wow, im really happy you experienced that. Shows how little you need to liberate your mind.

If i were you, dont abuse the mush. Take it once a month or every 3 weeks. Also take a larger does if you want a clearer message.

The spears and the native American makes me think you used to be one in another life. Native American culture is so beautiful

Fresh shrooms you need 40 or 60 gram. Dried for some 3.5 is good. I think to find out tolerance a good way is 1g per 45 mins. Or every 30 mins if fasting before hand. A mate of mine did 4.4g Cambodian and this was way too much for him. 7g for me on the same night was very nice lol.

Awesome thanks guys, speaking of fresh mushrooms I've had the urge to hunt some down for fun. I have a food dehydrator so I would dehydrate them but from cow-poop to dehydrate what is recommended? I think we used to just soak em in water in the sink and try to scrub off the debris. Is there any good formula to use that is safe to kill any bacteria/parasite? Vinegar or something or the other?

thanks

:whathesaid: your friends wrong. In fact heat above 140F is more beneficial than people believe because it denatures enzymes that are responsible for oxidation. Heat locks in potency.

Also gratz op

How did you conclude that, Madseason. Ive never heard of this. Ive heard this when your prepping your weed for cannabutter, but not mushies. Can you lead me to an article or something?

Also i dont use cow poo, but id think after your dry em out, the poo should just crumble away?

Papers? Not really on cubes. Tons of papers on mushroom enzymes though, and essentially why mushrooms turn to mush/degrade away fast after being picked. It cannibalizes itself using its enzymes, and these enzymes denature under heat, as well as pH. Boletes and witches hat all bruise dark when handled because of said enzymes.

Next thing is everyone who uses a dehydrator on here cranks it up past 160F for 24 hours (even if they dry within 12 hours) with great results. This works because the fact that psilocin has a melting point upwards of 170C (past 300F) and psilocybin is past 400F. They don't get affected unless you have them in like hella hot oil or something.

Lastly, I guess I would draw your attention to these threads, I put a lot of research and said a lot on here before on these exact things, you will find much more information in these links:

etc.

Bodhisatta also has a bunch of information on the subject if you're curious.
