Electronic 8qt Pressure Cooker
    #5205009 -

Hey, I'm just wondering if anyone has any opinions on electric pressure cookers (credible opinions preferably ).  I'd like the ease of having it on my desk and not having to deal with the stove (it's in a rather inconvinient place here).  Here's a model I've been eyeballin, tell me what you think.

it looks ok to me. i would assume that it will consume more energy than a stove, but maybe not. a good price for 8quarts though. do quart jars fit inside? i have an 8qt pc and they dont fit standing up... i can only do one jar at a time because thats all that fits in there because i have to put them in at an angle. make sure quart jars fit in there. if plan on using qt jars.

I'm planning on doing the 1/2 pint method. If i ever plan on moving up in size it will probably be a while down the line, in which case i could get a traditional cooker and use this one for small things on my desk. anyone have experience with one of these?

No experience here, but a quick peek on the internet shows that while people love its convenience, 4 out of 5 reviewers said that it died within a year of purchase. I think you'll love it for 1/2 pints, if you luck out with a durable one.

Most said that the display gave out, but I guess by the time that happens if it does, I'll be able to use it without relying on the display much anyways. I'll go for it and tell you guys how it works out.

Don't buy it. Just get a stove top model that doesn't have electronic displays near all that heat. If you do buy that one, NEVER use the 'quick steam release button' or you're going to have very dry substrate, and very cracked jars. Always allow a pressure cooker to return to zero pressure on its own, s l o w l y. Simply shut off the heat when time expires and walk away for a few hours.

I'll just go the safe route as you say, I'll check out 15-20qt PCs. Thanks RR for the steam release advice.
