Dog just ate shrooms ,help! urgent!
    #5200005 - 01/19/06 06:58 PM (18 years, 2 months ago)

Well about 2 mins ago, I came home to find him in my room eating the place apart. He does this shit all the time. In his destruction, he ate 2 shrooms chocaltes [like 2.5 g each], he ate them whole, aluminum wrapper and all. He also ate a bunch of gum and candies. My instict tells me to get him to a vet because of the chocalate he ate, but I'm hesitant because of the dose that the poor guy just took. I tried to get him to throw up a few times, not working.

Take him to the vet? Or just supervise himm for a while?

I'd be more worried about the chocolate then the shrooms. A friends dog ate a half ounce of dried shrooms and was fine but chocolate can kill a dog. I say go to a vet right now!

I had a Doberman that ate a whole pan of chocolate brownies one night and lived through it. She shit all water like diarrhea all over the house but she ended up all right. How much chocolate did your dog eat? If it was just a couple of pieces I wouldn't worry about it.

It is important to know just how much chocolate can produce toxic effects on your dog and that amount is one hundred to one hundred and fifty milligrams. That measurement does not mean much to most people, so to simplify it, if you have a twenty pound dog that means to reach the level of becoming poisoned they have to eat approximately ten ounces, depending on the type of chocolate

http://ut.essortment.com/dogschocolate_rcbr.htm

How much does your dog weigh?

Mix a 50/50 solution with H20 and H202 (Hyrdrogen peroxid) to get your dog to throw up.

Good. When it comes to your dog that is one chance that is not worth taking! Wise decision.

I know I am a little late- but you're dog should be totally fine if you google something about chocolate and dogs you can calculate how much it wud take to be harmful most likely for thatamount of chocolate your dog would have to be REALLY small and the chocolate would have to be dark chocolate for it to be harmful. My dog ate the majority of a box of see's candies and it wasnt even close to the harmful quota-- Eitherway though freak things can happen and who knows when mixed with other things like mushrooms but I hope that you're dog is fine and it was probably better to be safe than sorry!

my dog ate a whole bag of hershey kisses with the wrappers on.

it was around christmas, so he shit red, silver, and green tin
foil for about 2 days.

he was fine other than that though.

he has a cataract, a bum eye, and he walks with a limp.
that has nothing to do with the chocolate though.

My dogs have eaten entire bags of chocolate with the foil wrappers and all. Two things in your case concern me:

1. Shroom chocolates usually contain a darker chocolate that has higher levels of the alkaloid dangerous to dogs.

2. Your vet is going to know that your dog is seriously messed up, possible legal troubles.

Tough choice. Any update?

As for legal ramifications: couldn't he just say the dog ate shit outside?

Most likely if the chocolates were still wrapped up, he will crap them out still wrapped up. The hardest part will be passing the chunk of chocolate. I've witness a dog doing this. It's hilarious, but in a guilty feeling kind of way hahaha.
