Where in VA?

I live in the United States. I am in the state of Virginia. No one really has shrooms here. No one sells them. I was wondering if anyone knows where i should look to find shrooms in virginia. Thanks.

p.s. Ive looked in cow shit and never seen one.

Yeah, check out those FAQs and research panaeolus subbalteatus.. you should be able to find those if you look during the right times, in the right places - too much to go and list all of that info (like growing conditions etc), it should be readily available via search.

Virginia is missing from the FAQ for some reason :shrug:


Here are the species you should look for.

Panaeolus subbalteatus
-horse poo, old hay bails.

Gymnopilus sp. spectabilis, aeruginosus.
-rotting logs, stumps, wood chips.

Psilocybe caerulipes (very rare, but in good quantity when found).
-woody debris buried in sandy loam in riparian habitat.

I dont really live near farms and stuff.
Could some one find me a guide or give a few tips on where to find shrooms in parks, your yard, city, etc. Thanks. Oh and what type you can find in those places.

Copy and paste the Latin names I gave you into the "search posts" function and search them on google. Lots of info there.

Virginia totally sucks for shroom hunting. I've found a good patch of cubensis once.. maybe twice. .out of many, many, many searches. The conditions have to be perfect. But it helps if you live near some horse/cow fields.. I had to drive about 40 minutes.

Yes...wild.. perhaps.. in someone's horse field.. it was a humid and muggy late summer early autumn. Well.. it could have been Panaeolus subbalteatus.. I never properly identified them and the memory is hazy.. but I remember orangish-tan caps.
