Virginia thread time, please =)

Hey all just wondering if I could get some helpful advice from those who hunt in southeastern VA.  The conditions are right, and there are thousands of little brown mushrooms everywhere in sight in my area... I've spent a shitton of time looking here: (marked by red using ms paint)  in the 7 cities area... Still having no luck after over a year of avid hunting... Is it just my location or Am I bad at this? It still seems as if I'm coming face to face with completely new species every other day!!

Was wondering what actives you guys think I might find in my area this time of year? (yes I've seen the "what shrooms grow in my area page 1,000 times)

I'm looking in a well fertilized and grassy lawn. It has fucking TONS of LBMs in there.. Lots of them have cone or bell shaped caps and black spore prints, which is promising to me, as someone who has never found an active, these seem to be common characteristics of actives if I remember correctly.

I'm going Now to take pics of them in their habitat, and collect bunches of em for you to look at... In the meantime please feel free to post any helpful info for a newbie in Southeastern VA, I've hunted a lot last season, and am starting up again this season and would like to make the most of it!! thanks all for being patient with me, I don't post here much but plan to a lot in the future!

You're not allowed to ask what's growing in your area at such and such a time of year.

I'm in central VA and just starting out too. There is a list of species broken down by locality (state, country, etc) posted somewhere around here. You've probably already seen it. I've just been studying those species listed for VA and trying to develop an eye for good potential habitats. At this point I'm just getting to know the local fungi as after a few ID requests I realized that my eye is not yet discerning enough. Distinctions that should be obvious to me are not yet. I'm about to pick up a digital camera and post some ID requests for various non-actives I'm sure to find.

Keep looking. I hear cubensis can be found near the coast. VA doesn't seem to be full of magic, but I know it's out there. Some guys NW of me in VA who post here have been having damn good success with ovoids.

Good luck and keep your spirits high

EDIT: By the way, I was almost sure I'd found subbs/cintculus 3 times so far. Don't be so sure.  :fork:

I have never heard of one documented case of Cubensis being found in Virginia.I don't see why they wouldn't grow there though, temps are good for them.

Psilocybe Ovoideocystidiata definitely grows in Central VA, I can tell you that much.  They are a spring (and to lesser extent, fall) mushroom so time is dwindling.

I thought I had read that they fruit much more prolifically in the fall, rather than the spring. Is this true about ovoids or not?
