hair dryer heating agent?
    #515708 - 01/09/02 09:03 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

i have a hair dryer that has a temp control on it set to 86 F. the hair dryer is connected to a pipe that has a MM filter disc on the end it b4 it goes into the terrarium. now will this set my temp in the terrarium to 86 or will it overblow it to like 100F after awhile? can i just leave it there or do i have to do like a hour on hour off method of heating? or will this even work at all?

Just my thoughts....mind you.
The hair dryer is gonna be dry heat.......bad
Plus you can't leave a hair dryer on all the time.
You might burn your house or apt. down!!!!

What are you doing?
Are you using the glove box to colonize right now?
Or are you using it to fruit?
If your using it to colonize....get a another Container.
Put 4 to 5" of water in the container.
Stick the submersible aquarium heater into the water.
Stick another small container in the water.....for your jars....so the jars aren't in the water.
I have 2 of these set ups....they work great.
I have both of mine up to 86 degrees.
I'd just hate to see you have a fire with a hair dryer.
Then get busted for growing.....lolz

i'm not doing jars i have a terrarium inside the glovebox with an open lid (thats the reason for the glvoebox) but the temp is pretty low like 75F and 90% humidtiy the humidity is good but i need the temp. its a 45 gal tub not something i can put inside of another tub ya know its pretty big. i'm thinkin of gettin a heating coil that just goes into a reg lightbulb socket and just put it on like 1 hour on 1 hour off. something along them lines other then that i have no clue help me PLZZZZZZ

Maybe you could go to a pet store and grab an under tank reptile heat pad... or another submersible. Mines 100 watt and I'm not having any problems with heat, my terrariums smaller than yours though. Maybe you could throw a blanket on your glove box for insulation. That's working for me.

Yeah what he said.
Or get a big fruit juice container with a small mouth.
Tape the submersible inside to the top of the jar lid.
Hope you get it up to snuff.

What's the ambient temp. of the room? I think one of the reasons I got good results with the ol blanket was because it's sometimes a little cold in my room. Then again, insulation might do the trick no matter what the ambient air temp...

About your jar size... I can't really answer that. I suppose more heated volume would obviously give off more warmth in general though.

I don't know if I'm personally in the market for one, but that sounds pretty cool.
Good luck

also assuming the hairdryer is a normal one, it uses a lot of juice. I guess someone else pays your electric bill....
